Hugh Laurie says that he cannot get any work back in Britain anymore. Looks like one has to be very careful with such commitments. I like Hugh Laurie, but he doesn't have the range and versatility that Rufus does, and so that might be why he can't get work here! And, Maxx, I agree with you about Rufus doing the show for maybe a year. Much as I love the idea of seeing him weekly on the TV, I really can't see him wanting to do it any longer than that - I think he'd get itchy feet. The shooting schedule for TV series there is pretty punishing, isn't it? He wouldn't have time for anything else, and you know how he seems to like surprising us with unexpected goodies, like Dr Syn! However, as a springboard to wider recognition and the sort of work offers he wants, bring it on!

Maybe we'll find out for sure about the name change when CBS has the formal fall lineup announcement. It's elemental, my dear Watson - I mean, GE2. Rai

blogs.thestage.co.uk/tvtoday/2008/05/best-of-british-across-the-pond/Elsewhere, CBS will be debuting The Eleventh Hour starring Rufus Sewell in an eco-thriller drama that originally served as a vehicle for Patrick Stewart in its short-lived British incarnation on ITV1. Frankly, I thought the original was a good idea, just very badly executed with all the elements that have made ITV drama so shabby lately. Let’s hope this does the concept more justice - certainly Rufus Sewell is good compromise casting between US TV’s desire for beautiful people, yet he’s slightly quirky and can actually act. Always a bonus. They are catching on.....

And another blurb about it: ELEVENTH HOUR from acclaimed producer Jerry Bruckheimer follows Dr. Jacob Hood (Rufus Sewell, "The Illusionist"), a brilliant biophysicist and special science advisor to the government, as he investigates scientific crises and oddities. His jurisdiction is absolute and Hood is dogged in his pursuit of those who would abuse and misuse scientific discoveries and breakthroughs for their own gain. His passion and crusade is to protect the substance of science from those with nefarious motives. He is called in at the eleventh hour and he represents the last line of defense.blogs.jsonline.com/cuprisin/archive/2008/05/14/fall-tv-cbs-new-shows.aspxOoh, this is sounding better and better! ;D

Sorry GE2, I didn't want to rain on the parade here. It might still be very good. I am just selfishly thinking if he's tight down in L. A. for a considerable period of time, my chances of ever seeing him on stage might be somewhat diminished. In general, I get so much more out of most plays and stage performances than out of TV series. But there are exceptions, of course.

No need at all for apologies, Sharman - I agree with you! I'd rather have him out there doing all sorts of stage, TV, film, audio-books, radio, whatever, than tied to a TV series for years on end.
Having said that, I like the premise of the series and will be very much looking forward to being able to see it - I just want my chance of seeing him again live on stage , too!

It's elemental, my dear Watson - I mean, GE2. Groooaaannnnnn!!!! ;D But now I'm confused (it doesn't take a lot!) - all the news items today are still calling it "Eleventh Hour". Maybe it will be called "Elemental" only in Canada, to avoid confusion with their "The Eleventh Hour"?

this is ERs last season, so that shouldn't be much of an issue. LOM, I'm a big fan of the British version.
If that flies in the US, I'll be completely flabbergasted. I just can't see American's watching it, but you never know. I wouldn't even if Roof wasn't on opposite because I thought it was perfect the way it was. Remaking it, is absurd. NO ONE can replace John Simm.

Well, sounds like CBS has *some* confidence in the show, as it has CSI as its lead in.
And ER, wouldn't be its competition, IMHO. It'd be Lost!!!!!

Ah, but once word of mouth gets round how fantastic Rufus is in EH, "competition" is a word that won't apply any more! Yay!

I got a good laugh out of this one, especially the last few sentences.
