Actually, the death effigy of Charles II in the museum of Westminster Abbey was said to be a true likeness of the king and, aside from the dainty little feet and possibly the nose, is very similar to Rufus in appearance. I agree though, a portrayal of a historical figure gives far greater licence to an actor's own interpretation when there's no video footage or photographic evidence to be compared with. Charles II was a shocking public speaker for instance, if Pepys is to be believed. Although quite why we should take the word of a man who buried cheese in his garden for safekeeping while the rest of London burned is beyond me.

in my defense we don't have tons and tons of video tape of Charles II doing what he did so Rufus could mimic him. We wouldn't have any idea if Rufus' portrayal was spot on or not. We just know he convinced us it was. Touche (with an accent!)!!
