Some movies I really love that hardly anyone has ever heard of: Lars and the Real Girl (with Ryan Gosling....too weird to try and explain. If anyone else here has seen it, let me know if you liked it like I did.) I LOVE Lars and the Real Girl. Everything about it. All time favourite. Can belly laugh myself sick and be heart moved by the emotional vulnerability and kindness of it all, at the same time. All family and friends are forced to watch this one at least once with me. None complained. Impossible to see it too often. Saw Tintin recently. Think that's a 'good little film'. The cartoons brought to life. Snowy is even more adorable. The chases are even better. There is violence but that old fashioned kind where no one gets hurt. Will see it again. Best 3D I have seen.

Arthur Christmas was wonderful! My son and I enjoyed it so much, Bill Nighy was absolutely brilliant!

Two little twisted off kilter flicks that I like a whole lot are "Apartment Zero" with Colin Firth (so incredible) and "Shallow Grave" with Ewen McGregor. I wouldn't know how to categorize these films other than the fact that both were made on shoestring budgets and are off the beaten path. Kind of underground cult hits but oh so good.

If you haven't seen it and like gentle quirky British humour , I recommend 'Gregory's Girl' . This is a delightful 'rites of Passage' film which is quite old now but should be on everybody's list of feel good films

We went to see "Intouchables" on Sunday. I haven't been able to find an English title for this lovely French film yet, it seems like it's only showing in French- and German-speaking countries at the moment. It's one of those wonderful French films that effortlessly mingle drama and humour and emotion, about the unlikely friendship between a tetraplegic rich nobleman and a seemingly hopeless unemployed youth from the housing projects. I had tears in my eyes almost all the time - mostly from laughing, but also from some beautiful moving moments.

Saw Spiderman in 3D with my daughter yesterday. Really made me feel dizzy as you can imagine Spiderman swinging through the air in 3D. I dont like heights eighter. Thought it was pretty good. Liked it more than the other version.

"Brassed Off" is on my wanna-see list, thanks for reminding me, Frannie sewellme, I haven't seen A Very Long Engagement nor the Chanel film, but I loved her also in a little movie called "He Loves Me, He Loves me Not" (A la folie ... pas du tout is the original title). I adored "He Loves me He loves me not" a fantastic film which i sincerely believe could never be remade in Hollywood! Hooray! I also loved the original "The Killing" a Swedish series - magnificent and subtle ... AMC - American Movie Classics an american cable channel - tried to remake it and I feel they utterly failed. Also a beautiful if inaccurate film called "Coco and Igor" which I think by now ought to be on disc is wonderful - but certainly for the adults. ( I am not being biased simply because my secret non rufus passions Mads & Lars Mikkelsen are in 'C&I' and 'The Killing'... ;D)

I also recommend 'Shame' with Michael Fassbender (spelling) really for the adults - and 'A Dangerous Method' with Viggo Morgenson.
I avoid 3d films as I always get such a dreadful headache from them.
Probably the most beautiful films I have EVER seen would be "The Fall" and "Russian Ark"

YES ! More Mads Mikkelsen films (Heart) (If you like Dogma films try Open Hearts!) (If you like 'Adams Apples' look out for 'Green Butchers'!) And two wonderful art house American films! I must look for 'Bread and Tulips' it sounds great!

Don't know if this counts as a "little film" but I rented "Hamlet 2" last week and it's hilarious! It's not for the easily offended--the big musical number is called "Rock Me Sexy Jesus"--but a great story about a quirky high school drama teacher trying to save the drama department from being cut from the sports-obsessed school where he works. Another fun movie is the Showtime production of the musical "Reefer Madness". I'd heard of the play, which is based on the 1936 anti-marijuana propaganda film and I really love the Showtime version which stars one of my favorite actors, Alan Cumming. I adore Hamlet 2 but I missed Reefer Madness ... We sure are a lot of brilliant women here at the Rooftop - with great taste in films, books and Rufus!

I saw "Tyranossaur" recently. Not a happy go lucky movie but incredibly heart rending and very well acted.
Another spine chilling one was "We Have to Talk About Kevin". great performances again.
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel was a feel good movie and also very well done, without being twee
I enjoyed Contagion too

I'm not quite sure if I want to see "We Need To Talk About Kevin", although I'm sure it's a good film. It was a very good book, but also very disturbing. Spine-chilling is exactly what I'd have called it.
I loved "Best Exotic Marigold Hotel". Such a stellar cast, and a lovely story. I didn't even mind the one or two plot twists that I saw coming - it was just so well done. Nice humour, too.

There is violence but that old fashioned kind where no one gets hurt. Will see it again. Best 3D I have seen. Yeah, I rented this. I though it was cute for a kid's movie. My mom had gotten confused, however, and initially thought this was a movie about Rin Tin Tin. Bless her heart. She tries so hard. xD Also, someone mentioned Ewan McGregor. If anyone wants to see a nice film with Ewan, you should watch "Perfect Sense." It's bizarre, but I think that's the point. It reminded me of all the things we take for granted. I'd definitely watch it again.

I hadn't heard about that one. Sounds interesting, if a bit depressing.
