Great thread! Thanks, Laura. I am always on the look-out for good films. And any friend of Clive Owen's is my friend. Here's one I think one absolutely should not miss, it's extremely moving. www.imdb.com/title/tt0385017/

I keep wondering to myself what it is about the Kiwi's that make all of their most successful films be coming of age stories about precocious adolescent girls. My Father's Den is very typically Kiwi. If you like it, try Rain--it's another in the vein of MFD and the Whale Rider.
I liked Greenfingers as well. Not a film but Chancer is pretty entertaining if you can find it. It's very young Clive Owen.

"The Station Agent" is on my list as well, Peter Dinklage gives such a sweet and touching performance, as well as Patricia Clarkson and Bobby Cannavale.
"Il Postino" is another little gem that will melt your heart. Try to view it in Italian with subtitles, I've seen it advertised dubbed, it loses all the flavor. Weepy too.

I also really liked 'The Station Agent'! Peter Dinklage is really good in 'Death at a Funeral', too.

Dreamer, Bread and Tulips is one of my favorite films...I have to see it at least twice a year. I love LIcia Maglietti and Bruno Ganz together.

A film which I don't think was widely seen was "The Squeeze" - not the Stacy Keach one, but with Michael Keaton. Lousy reviews and plot holes by the dozen but I thought it was absolutely hilarious, and it's one of my favourite feel-good movies.

I did know Licia Maglietta 50 years ago, at a day nursery, and then we were together at secondary school, high school and university, and we still meet when she comes to Rome for some play on stage. The director and playwriter Silvio Soldini, was her life-partner for many years and Bruno Ganz was fantastic in that role. That film is really very nice, it got a great success in Italy and abroad.

Is she still acting in film? www.imdb.com/name/nm0536134/With the same director of Bred and Tulips, Silvio Soldini, she played "Agata and the Storm" and "The Acrobat". Before and after you can find her films on IMDB. A dramatic film I loved was "Red moon". Lately she's playing much more on stage, writing and directing the play by herself. We started interesting of theatre about in 1974, when there were many young acting company, not in the same actors group and with different task (I never acted . After the Architecture Degree we took different ways.
