As I don't care much for The Matrix, I didn't expect too much of this movie but, once again, had to change my mind after watching. Very, very creepy setting, especially the large hall with the giant clock, perfectly captured dark and scary atmosphere, and who else but Rufus with his amazing eyes could have played John Murdoch with his particular capability? (Tom Cruise! To even THINK of that. Eeeek.) Generally a very good cast. And I liked the fact that there wasn't much blood and gore and monsters but a rather subtle (and therefore much better) kind of suspense, being kept in the dark along with John Murdoch for quite some time, running into dead ends over and over, not even knowing who the hell you are. And the bathroom scene was nice indeed

So I got the DVD today from amazon, the director cut - it came in this smaller casing, "how cute" I thought. I was very exited, popped it in to the player and it didn't work!!! Well, I ordered the blue ray one by mistake!

Oh, I'm good at things like that too. When ordering the last Amy McDonald album I wondered why I received such a large package. I had ordered a RECORD instead of a CD (wasn't even aware that this was still available ) I'm waiting for the Director's Cut also, hopefully it'll arrive soon!

Can you believe this - a couple of years ago, Dark City was on Tv and I actually wanted to watch it because of Rufus Sewell in it.
I started watching it but as it was very late and I was alone in the house I got scared ;D So I stopped. I found it on YT so before I order it will watch it again in bright daylight.
I see a weekend with hours and hours of watching Roofs films ahead ;D

I see a weekend with hours and hours of watching Roofs films ahead ;D This is a beloved tradition on the Rooftop which we call a Ruf-athon. Especially lovely with some chocolate and/or wine to go with it.

@kmk & Anyother : Sorry for the late reply, it actually arrived about a week ago but I haven't watched it yet When the dvd was on its way, one of the TV channel actually got it on so I watched it but surely I wouldn't miss the director cut, as many testified better than the original. It is quite a set up for a planet they lived in, made your imagination goes on a strech for a gloomy, flat as a pancake and 360 dead ends earth. I agree with KMK on the less gore drama (which Hollywood tends to do) had made this one more appealing to follow. The only thing that I tried to make sense was the fish; I thought he filled the basin with water and took the fish there? but then it showed that the fish was in the tub alive with soapy water? I guess I should re watch it again soon......

Well, the tub water didn't seem all that soapy, actually. But he was in a hurry and a little disoriented and just didn't want the thing to die.
I loooooove Dark City!

I watched Dark City today - the directors cut. First thing I can say is that I deeply regret not having seen this on the big screen. It is really visually extraordinary and I found myself totally engrossed. I will watch it again with the director's commentary and maybe all the other commentaries as well, because I really want to know the thoughts behind it. Thanks to Rufus being in it I got to see this - I probably wouldn't have bothered without him in it. But it was so worth it. From the opening scene in the hotel room to the stunning end in the sunlight - brilliant. Have to watch it again to get my thoughts together.

Heheh, isn't it awesome? This is one of my absolute favorite movies and not just because Rufus is in it. Although it is the first thing I saw that made me notice him.
