to me, there are funny jokes, and there are unfunny jokes. of course, "funny" varies according to who hears the joke, and at what time too. but people i used to despise made me laugh because that time, that joke was funny.
so i will not , most of the time, generalize and say: vulgar comic are never funny - because sometimes they are, to me.
most of the time i prefer more subtle humour. but, again, depends on the mood...

Oh I agree, I think clean comics and singers can be great, look at Will Smith. That boy never rapped about the typical stuff you normally hear in today's rap, but he still sounded good and was wildly succesful. Same with Jeff Dunham...aint nothin funnier than Achmed singing Jingle Bombs...http://www.metacafe.com/watch/992170/achmed_the_dead_terrorist_jingle_bombs/

and i love house too, the show and the character, must be the most intelligent stuff in tv drama these days. ... i find it harder and harder to find anything really funny these days - maybe i am REALLY getting old, or are people less funny? I agree with you on that! I too appreciate the intelligence factor. It is preferable to me to watch shows that are science-based dramas in general for that very reason with a few scifi/fantasy shows thrown in at times to get me out of serious headspace mode. It's nice to watch material where from I can glean knew knowledge- actually learn something. That is a big reason- besides Rufus being in it- for my appreciation of EH. What I don't get are so-called "reality shows". Eegads! How bloody boring and this "rubber-necking" thing is not something I have ever liked. The whole idea is so petty really, I think. Vittoria, I tried watching a recent special with her and found her absolutely awful and just not funny. I borrowed a co=worker's dvd of John Pinette, a very funny, clean comic. I hate those that think in order to be funny they need to lace their monoluges with constant profanity. I'm not a prude, but if you're funny their would be no need for the shock value. My point exactly! I can't get into the US version of The Office, Ricky Gervais' version is so much better, and 30 Rock tends to run hot and cold for me, some weeks it's hysterical then others the humour just falls flat. Extras was a wonderful show that suprisingly was billed as a comedy, it was but with very dark undertones, Gervais' character was tragic to put it mildly. Worth viewing if it's in repeats or renting. Smart writing with no sophmoric laugh track. I don't get most of today's sit-coms. Dramas that have humour in them are funnier to me.... and indeed, laughtracks are pathetic. Oh I agree, I think clean comics and singers can be great, look at Will Smith. That boy never rapped about the typical stuff you normally hear in today's rap, but he still sounded good and was wildly succesful. Will Smith is awesome. His work is proof that "clean" works, whether in film or in music.
