I would like to add perhaps one or two more, 4 Wedding and a Funeral was lovely, John Hannah was wonderful, I would also add A Hard Day's Night, Night of the Hunter would have to be on that list as well, Robert Mitchum it terrifying, Lillian Gish a gem, and of course any Chaplin film deserves to be on any list.

There are many movies listed that I haven't seen. This is going to be a great resource for movies to catch up on!

tipou and lizap--You are so right to compile "others' lists". Other posters have mentioned so many good movies that I could adopt almost anybody else's list and be happy. Of the ones you two mentioned, I especially love Singin in the Rain, Tootsie, and Four Weddings and a Funeral.
GE2, you are so right about Brian's Song (the original). So, so sad. It's also one of the few movies that I've seen men cry unashamedly while they're watching.
I'm a crier, but strangely enough more often at happy things than sad things. Which reminds me of another one I forgot to list, The Color Purple, the ending of which makes me cry and cry for joy. Likewise, in Anne of Green Gables, I sob uncontrollably when Matthew gives Anne the dress with "puffed sleeves," probably more than at the later sad scene.

i cry during commercials. it can get so embarrassing. especially in a theater. last time we went to see julien in a play at his acting school, i told him "you made me cry..." there was about 5 people who said at the same time: " not so special, she cries for everybody and everything..."

Ahhh I'll bite....
And why pick on me Tip? You think I wouldn't like The Bells of St. Mary? I happen to love Bing Crosby thank you very much. And Mary's Bells Get Ringing isn't even on IMDB....not fair, how can I fake like I like something if it isn't on IMDB?
Ok my top 10 list..in order.
1. Pretty Woman - Timeless really. 2. The Sound of Music - I always kind of struggle with which scene I love more, the kiss or the dance.... 3. The American President - How I wish we had a president like Andrew Shepherd and Anette Bening was stunning in it. 4. The entire Star Wars saga. - What can I say that hasn't been said? 5. First Knight - Richard Gere and Sean Connery in one movie? Hot. 6. 28 Days - Sandra Bullock at her finest IMO. 7. Crash - Just too many great actors. 8. Love Actually - minus the Colin Frissel storyline....seriously could be higher on the list if they had ommited that little perv. 9. Troy - I know the facts were scewed, but it's still damn good entertainment. 10. Boiler Room - Surprise fave, but excellent acting from a well known but underated cast.
Surprise anyone?

I liked "Love Actually" as well DGD..forgot about that one....
And also, "Glengarry Glenn Ross", how could I forget that? Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Kevin Spacey and Alec Baldwin? Chewing up the scenery with some dynamite scriptwriting by David Mamet.
And "The Big Kahuna", forgot how much I love Kevin Spacey/Danny DeVito together!
Okay, my top 10 list is getting out of control!

Tip - Boiler Room is kind of this generations "Wall Street". Would have been incredibly dull if it hadn't been for the great writing and actors. My surprise favorite really. It's one of those you might catch on TV and say 'hey that's kind of good', buy it and it grows on you. It's really quite good. www.imdb.com/title/tt0181984/

oh my lists have none of shyamalan's movies! and no indiana jones! and no lord of the rings! and no tim burton's movies? i need another list!
i cannot believe that you people would put "first knight" in your list of best movies ever. i am usually very open about people's taste, but there, i am truly surprised. let it be known again that i walked all over it in tgteh"worst movie you ever saw" thread. but its ok, i love you anyway - after all, i liked "titanic", didn't i, so who am i to speak, really.

vittoria, it might be "anal," but it was much more sensible than my approach, which was just to list some of my very favorite movies as they came into my head, leaving me to think, "oh yeah, I forgot that one," over and over again as I read other people's lists.
You seem to like some genres I'm not fond of, like horror and martial arts, but I do love most of the movies you listed in other genres like sci fi and chick flicks, so maybe I'll give some of your other ones a try.
didn't you start this? I think you're allowed to make up the rules as you go along and give us a top 50 list.

RE: First Knight- I just love anything to do with knights and chivalry- especially surrounding King Arthur.... I guess I'm just soooo sappy! LOL. vittoria, it might be "anal," but it was much more sensible than my approach, which was just to list some of my very favorite movies as they came into my head, leaving me to think, "oh yeah, I forgot that one," over and over again as I read other people's lists. Tell me what you think of them. Ooooo... Queen of the Damned... Stuart Townsend with fangs and wearing leather pants. ~drool bucket please!~
