maybe i missed it...
but i did not find a thread for that film either...
anyway, if there is one, here is another. 2 threads are better than one. and certainly better than none.
i might sound harsh here, about the acting, i mean. after all, he plays a politician entangled in a sex scandal. who ever heard of such a thing? really, it is very, very difficult for me to believe any part of this role, but there is worse.
he plays an honest politician.
now, come on!!!! even the ruf cannot get away with that one.
but, strangely, i feel elated and content, having seen this movie. is it the enchantment of venice, the light on its canals, the lewdness, happiness, lightness, utter uselessness of its people?
shame on me.
and shame on me twice, because now the great inquisition may very well accuse me.
of impure thoughts, certainly. see... there is still a stupid smile on my face.
but also of envy. yes... in the midst of my newly gained venetian serenity, i cannot but remember that, having shagged mel gibson's william wallace, catherine mccormach also shagged rufus sewell's marco venier (big time, too - she even had a course before hand - what do i say - she had a college degree!)
see, this movie, basically, is a movie about sex. sex & money. sex & power. sex & freedom. women & sex. sex vs. women, women vs. men & sex...
pretty light, you'd say?
think again. it may seems like a big joke to you, but consider this:
the lusty yet honest politician actually convinces the whole government AND the holy church that women are equal to men,
that men are as guilty of the original sin as women are,
that the government is full of womanizers and liars;
he brings all the city's eminent men to confess their sins,
without having one single wife throw a single tantrum;
he totally separates church from state,
getsa full majority,
AND gets the girl
without being impeached.
the bill clintons of this world should be listening.
so, maybe i gave rufus sewell a 7/10 for acting, but i will give his marco venier a whopping 10/10 on political savvy.
let's create a political party, and make him our leader. i would certainly vote for this guy. and i wouldn't mind a private hearing either.
