well, it would be kind of disrespectful not to, thinking of it... the gentleman goes through all the trouble of getting naked, if we don't look, it's not very nice, now, is it? i would not want to be impolite towards rufus, after all. so, i'll have another look... LOL

You are a truly devoted fan, to consider his feelings that way. The sacrifices you make!

i proposed "dangerous beauty" to the "girl movie sundays" group. i mentioned the storyline, the beauty of venice, the wonderful interpretation. of course those are not what interest the girls the most. they were sold on the bed scenes. they want italian food for dinner. very spicy, they said. and someone is bringing red italian wine. that will be an interesting reunion, to be sure.

Wonderful way to spend Sunday evening with the girls. Make it Venetian instead of Italian, with prosecco and seafood. Have a blast.

Just got this movie in the mail today and of course, our office is on mandatory 6 day so I'm at work until 11pm so won't be able to watch it until then. I'll take comfort in staring at the gorgeous picture of Rufus on the inside of the dvd cover.

Oh, peach, you're making me even more anxious for quittin' time! I'll have to stop and get some beer or wine on the way home so I can relax and enjoy this! Come on 11pm! Rufus naughty bits are awaiting!

well, about the naughty bits, dont put your viewing expectation too high, the cinematographers were not that generous towards us. but the general nudity is still good for the soul. what a bod he has, oh good lord.
i strongly recommend wine over beer. red wine.

A nice full red and some candles and maybe some chocolate, would round off the evening. I will put this on my list of repeat viewing perhaps this week-end. No not much naught bits (ode to python) but what's shown is a treat, he is in a word, perfect, good story too.
I am looking forward to your critique.

I lucked up and got off work an hour early, ran to Wal-Mart, got some Killian's Red, came home and popped in the dvd. What a magnificiant movie! My favorite Rufus movie now! So beautiful and rich, a real feast for the eyes! The dialouge, even that which wasn't actually poetry, was poetic and soul-stirring. I would love to see Oliver Platt and Rufus do another movie together; they were so wonderful onscreen. And what a pleasant surprise to see Melina Kanikaredes in her small role!
In the extras for "Dark City", Rufus talks about this movie briefly, specifically mentioning how much he hates the name change from the original title "The Honest Courtesan" and I completely understand why. The title change was obviously meant to make the movie sound much more "modern" and to attract a wider audience. Just as the director of "Dark City" was forced to dumb down the movie by adding the narration, the makers of this movie were forced to change the title to something shallow and "catchy". Such a shame since the original title fits the story so much better!
Even though the "naughty bits" scene wasn't a "full monty", I didn't mind. The scene was shot so beautifully and there was enough 'naked Rufus" to get the hormones going! He was so amazing in this role, again, really becoming the charcter. His scenes at the tribunal had me in tears, as he begs Veronica's lovers to stand up and do the right thing. Veronica's "confession" was powerful and came from her soul; it perfectly illustrated the plight of women at that time.
Here's something I was thinking and I have a feeling you ladies will agree. Whenever actors talk about doing "love scenes" they say they're not really that enjoyable because there are a bunch of people around, it's very mechanical, not spontaneous, etc. If I had scenes with Rufus like Catherine McCormack did, I don't care if it was filmed in front of a sold-out crowd at Yankee Stadium, I would still get turned on! If we weren't actually going to "do anything", there'd have to be a cold shower nearby when the scene was over! I just don't see how any woman could do scenes like that with him and not have some sort of primal response to it!
And I have the perfect wine for a future viewing! One of the local wineries here has a dessert wine called "Raspberry Beret". It's scrumptious, decadent, sweet wine that goes perfectly with a dark chocolate! Unfortunately, the winery is closed until late March so I'll have to wait to pick up a bottle or twelve then!

Glad you enjoyed it so much, Ambra - it's one of my favourites , too (in spite of a couple of glaring continuity errors which niggle me whenever I watch it). Even though the "naughty bits" scene wasn't a "full monty", I didn't mind. All I will say is : watch it on freeze-frame, when Veronica gets on top.... And yet she apparently had a body double for that scene. Perhaps she didn't trust herself!

raspberry beret and dark chocolate... sounds yummy to me.
glad you like the movie. for me, the cinematography alone was well worth the price of the dvd. and yes, melina was a surprise! i guess everyone has to start somewhere, a mute role is still a role, plus she was gorgeous.
about the sex scene... i dont want to get to explicit here, but wouldn't that be a bit more challenging for a man? i mean... theres's fake, and then there's... natural reactions... a guy can't help that. i always wondered how they can pull that off without creating an embarrassing situation...
