Yes - thanks, Kate (sorry, missed this yesterday). We do have it here somewhere, I think, but an interview like that is always worth re-reading. Doesn't pull any punches, does he?

Well, I would have prefered finding the kid and living happily ever after...but thats just me. Wonderful acting performance by Rufus, but not the dvd I watch over and over again, or at least the ending.
Thanks for the link to the interview...interesting.

Possible spoiler++++
But you may not like the very end. It is a bit disturbing and violent ( a body ripped apart). Wonderful acting by Rufus the entire movie!

I've recently watched this for the first time. Will have to watch again I think to take it all in. I was kind of apprehensive all the way through because I'd read about it and was too "worried" about how bad it (the events) would get to relax and take it all in.
Funny how our preconceived ideas affect our viewing.
Lots of moving scenes. The one that has stayed with me most after one watch is the scene where they are trying to walk through the mud and he attempts to help her several times and she is rejecting his help. I related to them both so much at that point. It said so much about where they were in their relationship - the damage that had been done, the anger, the roles they were reduced to. So very, very sad. Their story was over in that scene, I think. No more hope. I don't think I was holding out for a "happy" ending, but if I was nurturing a little flame of optomism in any small space in my head then that scene certainly snuffed it out. Really glad I finally got a copy of this film. I'll watch it again.

KMK, that you for that wonderful interview, great insight. And yes I would love to see him in more comedy, he's so very versatile. When will the "suits" take notice?

Meg loved your review, could only sit through this film once, too disturbing for me, but after reading your post I will make it a point to re-view this film a second time. Thank you Peach! I was watching the film for the second time when I wrote that review. I had watched it previously the night before, but I couldn't really concentrate on the story 100% (I was taking screencaps ;D ). I haven't watched it since writing that review, and I'm long overdue for a Ru-fest so maybe I'll have a couple more thoughts to add!

I've only seen this film once as it is a bit too disturbing for me.Got it on DVD last year I think, saw it through that first time and haven't been able to see it again. Wonderful acting though by both Beart and Sewell. Visually stunning film and it makes you pay attention, many subtle nuances and believable chemistry between the two leads, but I still can't bring myself to watching it again. I will put that on my to do list however.

Watched Vinyan for the first time yesterday. I hate horror films, but Rufus... Then I discovered it isn´t horror although disturbing enough. It´s more of a psychological film with a great relationship between the two main characters who show how it falls apart with the time and ends in madness. I also liked the hand held camera, the rain, the red shirt in the middle of grey mud and the music. I may repeat something you already said as I didn´t read all the posts, but I read the last interview. It´s very interesting that Rufus says he likes this type of film, but also sees himself as a comic actor (so Autolycus is the right person for him)!

It was so beautifully acted, by both Rufus and Emanuelle Beart. That made it,as you say, a disturbing film to watch, but well worth it. It seems like he wants to be allowed to have variety, and if anyone deserves it, he does, because he is so versatile! I hope Autolycus will be allowed to have character moments and not just be lost in action sequences!
