So do you think it should have stopped at a different point Tipou? If so, when?

its not as much at stopping earlier, but about stopping the effects.
i think the "disembowelment" - however strong the symbol - was totally superfluous. it's like showing someone being guillotined, you dont have to see the head fall and the blood gush to get it. sometimes, suggestion is stronger than the image.
and the movie was just that, about suggestion. it is that which gripped us who liked the movie in the first place.
take that scene out, just suggest the ripping apart of paul, and its a different movie altogether. first of all, without that scene, the movie would not have been presented as a horror movie, which chased away a whole part of the public who would have been interested at least a bit more.
how many movies do you know that could take you totally with subtle effects only? only with ambiance and uneasy feelings, and such? the very movie for which vinyan was supposed to be a hommage, "dont look now" - and rufus himself kept comparing the two movies - has its best parts just about that, ambiance and feelings, and subtle actors play.
i can take gore, horror and the like. its not that i was shocked by the scene. i mean, one of the entries in my top ten list of favourite - and most efficient - movie sequences is the one in "pulp fiction" where uma thurman is revived from her overdose. another is the "guess who came to dinner" sequences in the original "alien".
its not that i have a weak heart.
i ADORE pizza, but if you want to impress me with delicate haute cuisine, dont bring me the large all dressed with anchovies after 3rd course. it just does not belong there.

You make a good point--the violence was over the top and belonged in another movie, and misdirected the marketing monkeys. Unlike you, I do have a weak heart and stomach when it comes to gore (also really, really hated the eyeless body dropping down from the tree), but even if I didn't, I probably wouldn't have appreciated it here.
My ending would have been, as I said, much earlier and more conventional. Maybe back in Phuket, in a cab going home. Jeanne yells for the cabbie to stop...and jumps out running after another little boy in a red shirt, fade to black. Something like that--in a world of realism, but knowing that she is never, ever going to accept it. I'm too literal I guess. But now that I look that idea, it would also be hitting the viewer over the head with a sledgehammer, just in a different direction. du Welz's version at least has us still talking about it.

''and now in the next episode of "rue and tip at the movies" we will review next rufus oeuvres: -should he be wearing hugo boss or armani in the aurelio zen series (i go for armani myself!)? -and could TPOTE bring back "men in tuniques" fashion this fall? see you next week, at "rue and tip at the movies". have a great week."

LOL! Well, dear colleague,
-Armani would be my preference too, but if they're true to the books, they'll be well-made but old and out of fashion suits. -I think most of our viewers would prefer the "men out of tunics" fashion.
Now, we turn over the discussion of the Vinyan ending to our fellow reviewers....

I didn't really like Vinyan. I felt it was too drawn out and even boring at times. If it wasn't for Rrrufus, I wouldn't have watched it through to the ending (which I agree was a bit gorey compared to the rest of the film). It was nice seeing his peachy bum again though...LOL

Vinyan was not my movie too. I saw it just because of Rufus and I didn't liked the movie that much. I think the sound was sometimes terrible.
But I liked watching Rufus acting and of course I liked his clotheless body in that special scene but I really didn't liked the end and that massacre. But I liked some scenes very much like the scene with him and his wife sitting at the beach before the rain sets in. And the scene in the cab was just brilliant. And him talking to her on the boat saying that their son is dead brought me nearly to tears (because I have a child on my own). Or the scene where she jumps in the water and he gets her and holds her while she was freaking out.
Nevertheless I liked it to watch Rufus and so I will end up seeing every movie he's in. If good or bad you know. Just like in good times and in bad times.

Yesterday I (finally) watched Vinyan. Strange, confusing, ... It blew me off my feet and I've been thinking about for many houres afterwards (wich left me with very little sleep ) It's very difficult to tell when they are imagining things or not. I'll probably watch it again tonight. BTW: off course Rufus is fantastic!! I could hardly stop myself from hunging the TV-set when he was crying out to Joshua to come back home.

Great find, Olika - pity the sound wasn't better, but great to see how that scene was set up. Hope Rufus's ankles weren't hurting too much!
