I bought the DVD (because of the making of!) and watched it on you tube, not on DVD yet! But the greatest thing is I'll go to Thailand with my mother and now take a look where we're going: And here the pics from the movie Vinyan: I think I will hanging around in the jungle with my camera and taking photographs just like Rufus (we have the same passion for photography): I'm so excited, I can't wait!

That truly looks like paradise Victorygirl! Just luscious. I hope you and your mother have a wonderful time. Wonder if the Thai food there is even better than what you can find in the States(which is pretty yummy!) Well, I guess you will find out. When are you going? Oops, I see you are from Switzerland now, do they have great Thai food there too?

Yes, we have Thai restaurants here in Switzerland. I like it very much, it's so delicious. We'll go in March 2011. I watched Vinyan yesterday and now I'm even more excited. I was in so many places like America, Mexico, Egypt and many others, but Thailand is something special I think.

VG it is indeed a very beautiful area. Vinyan mostly made the area look grey and bleak. It would not have inspired me to go if I had not already been. I recommend hiring a long tail boat for an afternoon sightseeing. Get the boatman to drop you off on Koh Panyee for look too, it's a fascinating spot. I hope to spend a night there when I go next.
It's a shame you're not there until March 2011 I will just miss you.
Rufluvr the food is out of this world and so cheap you don't need to look at the prices. Although I'd avoid the food sellers at the AO Phang Nga boat launch and hang on until Koh Panyee for a meal.
You just reminded me I need to go and watch the making of Vinyan I've not seen it all yet.

Thank you kygal. Oh nell, how sweet of you. Don't worry it'll be only 10 days. It was my mum's idea and my answer was:"Oh I saw a film, with hunky Rufus (I think she likes him too!) and in one scene they are exactly where we're going. The film is spooky, but the landscape looked very interesting when I first saw it!" The funny thing is my mum read my mind. When I first saw Vinyan I thought "I want go there!" and now we're going. I think it's also very important to go with someone you love and my mum and I are like twins. She's also my best friend too. "I'll wait here until Sam arrives!" "Juhuuu Paul!" "Jesus, this journey was sooooo long may I take a nap on your shoulder?" "Of course you can!" A welcome like this would be great!

At last I got to watch the making of Vinyan. What a great insight. I'd just loved to have been there watching it all being put together. Thanks so much for posting the link Martina. Thanks for the inspiration Sam. I actually booked 4 nights in a hotel this morning ready for my stay. Now I may only spend 2.5 weeks sleeping on a beach

Of course sorry for that GE2. It dosen't happen again! Let's talk about the film: I had to watch it many times to say that in the end I like it. There are some special and strange scenes in it (sex scene: I'm not a big fan of this kind of scene!) but as an artist I like it. And...Paul is yummy isn't he? Maybe I'm the only one who likes Rufus with beard or three-day beard? Anyway Paul is one of my favourites! "I'm too sexy for..."

Sam, your holiday sounds fab (and yours nell). I've been to Thailand a couple of times and it's wonderful (sorry GE2 - you can spank me later!!) Anyhow, what i really wanted to say was that there's really no need to start any sentence with the words "maybe i'm the only one who likes Rufus with ..........." It doesn't matter what he's doing or what he looks like we love him. And stubble? Are you forgetting the gorgeous Marke? Paul is a truly wonderful modern character. A man trying to the best for his wife while trying not to be dragged down in his own grief. Vinyan is a difficult and complex film. And the fact that Rufus seems to walk through it without even having to act, is just testament to his talent and that of Fabrice du Wells, in letting him bring this naturalistic performance to the table. And for as hard as it can be to deal with, the sex scene really marks a turning point in the film. The time when Paul realises that he can no longer keep doing what he has been. That for as difficult as it is for him, he needs to start trying to exercise some sort of control over his wife. The fact that he has to get blind drunk to do it, is a mark of the man that he really is. And the bravery and sheer ability that Rufus shows in being able to pull that scene off is incredible. The voice track is brilliant, without even watching the vision. Along with the masturbation scene in Downloading Nancy, these scenes are powerful and uncomfortable and astounding but absolutely necessary in demonstrating the issues in the relationships depicted in both of these films. And that's a fabulous, fabulous photo Sam!! He is beautiful isn't he...... ;D

Yes Numbat . I'm in complete agreement with you about Vinyan and Downloading Nancy . I love all of Rufus's work and am a complete admirer of it . The romance and froth , the laughter and light comedy touch show his mastery of his profession. But when it comes to Downloading Nancy and Vinyan, then you have an actor reaching his zenith . The subtle banked down emotion of DN and the raw desperate emotion of V show an actor of the finest quality. He may not have yet reached his full potential but these films must surely show him to be near it.
I have said this before: If these had been stage work, then there would have been awards galore, but no, they are films and the suits don't think we can understand. Everything must be dumbed down. Perhaps they are the ones who don't understand ... Hence the walkout at Sundance. At least with films we have a record of what a superb actor Rufus is.
