Just received this in a RS notice....
THE PILLARS OF THE EARTH
During a civil war, a famine and religious strife, a magnificent cathedral rises in Kingsbridge. Based on the bestselling novel by Ken Follett, this is the story of the intertwining lives of a master builder, a noblewoman, the Prior of Kingsbridge, an artist and a woman from the forest who casts a spell. In association with CBC, this Movie Central and The Movie Network original series is a co-production of Muse Entertainment and Tandem Communications with the association of Scott Free Films Ltd., with an outstanding international ensemble cast that includes Ian McShane (Deadwood, Kings), Donald Sutherland (Dirty Sexy Money, Cold Mountain) and Rufus Sewell (The Eleventh Hour, The Illusionist). The Pillars of the Earth is directed by Sergio Mimica-Gezzan (Battlestar Galactica, Heroes), written by John Pielmeier (The Memory Keeper's Daughter, Agnes of God) and executive produced by Michael Prupas and Rola Bauer with producer John Ryan. Currently in pre-production.

Oh, excellent find, Tinker! It sounds fantastic. Yes, Catdishy,I wonder, too, if Rufus will be McShane's son? ;D The link I found is here: www.tradingmarkets.com/.site/news/Stock%20News/2364945/RAIIIIIIII!!!!!!!! Is this the mini-series you mentioned? ADDED: Ah, I think it is - just found this: Also in pre-production with Muse Entertainment, Tandem Communications and Scott Free Films is The Pillars of the Earth, an eight-part limited drama series based on Ken Follett's bestselling novel of the same name. This epic has a stellar international cast, including Donald Sutherland (Dirty Sexy Money) and Ian McShane (Deadwood, Kings), and will premiere in spring 2010 on Movie Central and The Movie Network. www.channelcanada.com/Article3009.htmlAnd Rufus, darn you! (Anyone else get annoyed that when he is listed for anything, he's almost always mentioned last? Grrr!)

Yay, Famke!! Hope you don't mind me posting excerpts: The series starts lensing June 22 in Hungary and Austria. Premiere is set for the second half of 2010.
McShane, who starred in HBO's "Deadwood," will play Waleran, Sutherland takes the role as Bartholomew and Sewell, who recently headlined "Eleventh Hour," plays Tom Builder. Others who have signed on for the shoot include Matthew Macfadyen as Prior Philip ("Frost/Nixon"), Sarah Parish as Regan Hamleigh ("The Holiday"), Hayley Atwell as "Aliena" ("Brideshead Revisited"), Eddie Redmayne as Jack ("The Other Boleyn Girl") and Gordon Pinsent as the Archbishop ("Away from Her").
The novel has been adapted by John Pielmeier, who will also play the role of Cuthbert in the saga. His credits include "The Memory Keeper's Daughter" and "Hitler -- The Rise of Evil."
"It's great to celebrate this moment after so many years of pursuing the rights to this outstanding book," Tandem managing director Rola Bauer said. "The fact that we have been able to raise the production financing in these economically challenging times is testimony to the enduring strength of fictional television Event programming and brings us into Tandem's 10th year of international co-productions."
The plot of the suspense thriller set in 12th century England involves war, religious strife and power struggles as well as two interwoven love stories.
Tandem recently closed financing for the mega-production in May, a little over a year after acquiring the rights to the book and bringing the title to MIPTV.
The mini has already been licensed to Germany's ProSiebenSat1, Canada's CBC and the Movie Network, Spain's Sogecable, Austria's ORF, Hungary's TV2 and, for home video Stateside, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. There is as yet no broadcast deal in the U.S.
No broadcast deal for the UK, either..... Thanks, Famke! (Matthew Macfadyen as well - yay again!)

I knew being in NY would leave me out of the Rufus loop. But perhaps one of the cable networks will do it. If they put it out on Video I am going to get it than I won't have to be out of the loop. Anyway I am glad to see he is doing something worth while and not a 3d movie.

That sounds like a great production! Thanks for finding this news, tinkerdog, and for expanding on it, famke and ge2! Set in the 12th century, there's bound to be facial hair or scruffy razor stubble. Were they still wearing short togas then? No? Maybe tights then. Seriously, I'm happy he's found something that he's excited about and I hope it's a good, meaty role that gives him lots of chances to show his talents.
