ok so let's put this back on track. seems that dgd and i have been too lazy to end this story project, so we might as well go on playing in the mean time.
was it mentioned in this thread that anyone would like rufus in a clint eastwood project at one point? i don't know why it just occurred to me, how the clint is sometimes working on more intimate, psychological stories that would be nice for rufus' range.
any thoughts? should i call anyone's agent yet?

I'm going to have to comment on this, while I think Clint is a very gifted director, I've been a fan of his direction since his first outing, I have been truly dissapointed with his latest efforts. Thought Million Dollar baby was overblown and not very good, hype outweighed story and acting. I would love to see Scorcese or even Lumet direct him, in anything, preferably in NYC. That would be a dream outing.

is lumet still alive? ?

Yes, he's still alive. I can't believe he has never won an oscar, he has such an illustrious career and has never been rewarded for it, those boneheads on the left coast must be biased against NY'ers, pure jealousy is what it is. Actually Lumet doesn't need h'wood's accolades he knows he's done great work.

never an oscar, huh? that's a very distinguished list, the no oscar list.
i actually prefer lumet to scorcese. but don't shoot me for saying it please.

No, differences of opinion are gladly accepted. While both capture NY perfectly, I do like Lumet better but not by much. Scorcese is edgier and much more grittier. He knows the underbelly of NY b/c he's lived it and he understands it, he's Italian and he's for the most part treated them with dignity, even his most grotesque villians. Lumet also from NY but Jewish, his view of NY is slightly different. Two of my faves of his are Serpico and The Verdict, perfectly acted and directed, although the latter takes place primarily in Boston.
In that respect that is why I detest Woody Allen, an elitist if ever there was one. His dumbest buffoon are always smarter than the smartest Italian. Being of Italian decent I take umbrage at that, never does he show them in a smart way. I have given up on his films altogether.

i prefer to hear scorcese talk about cinema, rather than watch his movies. same for cronenberg. hate cronenberg's movies with a passion (except perhaps the one he made with viggo) but i could listen to him for hours when he talks about films.
likewise, i like allen ok, but i prefer his books.
serpico in one of my favourite movies ever. that and dog day afternoon - also lumet. which happen to be my favourite al pacino movies (with godfather 1, of course). after that, he pretty much started getting on my nerves most of the time.

yeah he yells now, many years ago, for my 18th birthday, my sister and her boyfriend went to see Pacino at a local university. It was just him on the stage, baggy brown pants, black sweater with a hole in the elbow, odd how I remember that, anyway, for 2+ hours it was him and a chair on stage, discussing his craft, doing bits of the Bard, what an incredible evening that was. I could have listened for 2 more hours, it was that good. I don't think he deserved the Oscar for Scent of a Woman, that was the academy's way of saying you should have won it countless times before, same goes for Newman, he deserved that for THe Verdict to say the least, he was amazing in Hud, The Sting, Cool Hand Luke, the list is almost endless, same can be said for Pacino. I don't watch the Oscars anymore, it's another self congratluatory pat on the back and most of the awards are undeserved. It's one giant popularity contest. It was no surprise that Winslett one, just like Adrien Brody, same theme, same award, it's a given. No contest. The people who truly deserve them rarely win.

Rufus in the roles Cary Grant played??? GENIUS! Someone, quick alert Hollywood. They seem to like doing re-makes these days and these would be fabulous.
