Since I mentioned it earlier, I thought I'd introduce a game called Recast the Film. Pick any film, play, tv show or whatever and recast it with actors that you think would be good in it. Doesn't matter if an actor is dead--just pick the dream cast (and since this is all about Ruf, he has to be at least one of the characters. Yes, that means he can play twins !). To start: I'd like to see Rufus as Tony in Wire in the Blood. Pen

P.S.--If you think the cast was fine as is, you don't have to change it--just make sure Rufus is in there ! Pen

I'd like to see Rufus in Doctor Zhivago. I'd like Lara to be played by Cate Blanchette. And I'd like Kormarovsky to be played by Marton Csokas. It's a big cast. That's all I'm willing to cast right now--

I'd like to see Rufus in The Fountain. I'd leave the entire cast in place, I'd just replace Hugh Jackman with Rufus. I like Hugh. I just think Rufus would have been better.

I'm still a big believer of Rufus as Larry in CLOSER, either on stage or on film. Also, Katurian in THE PILLOWMAN. They could do a movie of that!

Rufus as Jack Torrance in a remake of The Shining. If I hadn't read the book, I would probably have it enjoyed it more.
But since I had, and it was one of my favourite Stephen King books, it was a disaster! In my opinion King's books tend to be so multi-layered that filming them never does them justice. (Except maybe for Salem's Lot, which scared me s***less even after I'd read the book)
However, here my gripe was in casting Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance. Much as I like Nicholson, when he's cast in a film, you just know he's going to play crazy/off the wall/evil, and the whole point of The Shining was that the evil in the hotel gradually takes over Jack Torrance.
I think Rufus would capture the bewilderment of what's happening to perfection - and as long as they didn't cast someone as irritating as Shelley Duvall (whatever happened to her?), I'd be more than happy.

I totally agree GE2! Stephen King's Shining was not given justice in the film, & Rufus would have been excellent in the part of Jack. I thought The Shining was King at his best, (remember the description of the fire hose coming to life? The mental pictures he created in that scene.....brilliant.) I hope you read The Stand. It was as good.

I haven't read The Shining yet, but I saw the film years ago. I didn't like it much, mostly because I'm not a Nicholson fan. I hadn't thought of Rufus as Jack. That would be interesting! I'll have to see the film again so I can 'substitute' Rufus into it ! Pen

I do remember that part - but what was creepier were the parts where the topiary animals started to move up - gave me nightmares! And totally unfilmable. The Stand was the book which marked the end of my love affair with Stephen King - just couldn't get into it, which surprised and saddened me. Now, Firestarter - that was a fine read!

I still think we haven't seen Wuthering Heights yet.. I'd like to see someone like Jane Campion direct Rufus in it.. I think she'd get a powerful performance out of him .. I'd partner him with someone who is spirited and wild, beautiful and intelligent.. maybe Catherine Zeta-Jones..
He'd be great as Quint in The Innocents.. with Emma Thompson in Deborah Kerrs role.. that takes care of dark and desturbed .. now for a spot of comedy.
