O.K. I may be totally alone in this...but I couldn't help thinking that Rufus would have been much better than Johnny Depp in his Pirate movies, and I like Depp. I just think Rufus would have been funnier. And I couldn't understand why Depp played him as being constantly inebriated. The stagger, the slur, that's how it came across to me anyway. Yes, he'd have had a ball playing Jack Sparrow! He'd have loved the eye-liner. But he wouldn't have done the stunts. You know, it's a funny thing about Depp - forever, the first thing that has attracted me to a man are his eyes, and Depp has the most gorgeous peepers, so he should be top of my list...yet I don't fancy him at all!

You're right, he is handsome & has great eyes BUT even though he may be a very charming fellow it just doesn't come across when he is out of character. I don't think Ruf could hold it back at gun point! He comes across as much less guarded & I believe has a more revealing personality. I've only ever seen that in Depp in a few movie bloopers while interacting with the other cast members. In short he just ain't THE MAN. RUFUS BE THE MAN ;D

Having watched a re-run of 'Priscilla, Queen of the Desert' last night, I think Rufus would have played Guy Pearce's part beautifully. Think TOTS yet a bit camper.....alternatively, later in life he could play Terence Stamp's part admirably. Beauty, dignity, masculinity and frailty all in one hit. Oh, and those cheekbones of course. The likening of Roof to TS seems to keep coming up and not just by me.

I've got a whole list with films I would recast with Rufus, here's a little part of it:
"It happened one night" (a classic with Clark Gable): It's a romantic comedy, but very intelligent and a bit snappy, too, and I could imagine, Rufus would play Peter Warne with a new quality of british humour. Jennifer Ehle could co-starring.
"Terminal" (yes, that one with Tom Hanks and Catherine): I'm convinced, Rufus could give a less slapsticky and more vulnerable quality to Viktor Navorski without losing sight of his optimism. Jennifer Connelly could replace CZJ.
"Guys and Dolls" (choose whatever you want: the movie with Frank Sinatra or the 2005 London stage adaptation with Ewan McGregor): I'm hoping desperately that Rufus could get the chance one day to play Sky Masterson, this incessantly smiling enticer, for it surely would show us traits of Rufus we've never ever seen before.
"Bent" (that gay classic with Clive Owen): Awkward charakter, problematic time period, main focus at dialogues instead of movement and action and therefore a real challenge. Just perfect for Rufus.

I would like to see "Beyond Borders" (and I AM a Clive Owen fan) with Rufus, and anyone other than AJ. Not that Clive did a bad job......just that I could see Rufus doing a whole lot more with it.
I would like to see Ruf do Guy Pearce's role in "LA Confidential", he would have made it more 'human'.
I absolutely cannot see Rufus doing a musical.........but I think I'd like to see him doing Gere's part in "Chicago" and keep CZJ and RZ. Or change them, I don't care.
Or Tim Robbins part in "The Player"..........not that TR did a bad job, he was great.....but I'd like to see what Ruf would have done with that sleezy Hollywood man!

I know how much he hates musicals, but Rufus as Frank 'n' Furter would be pure dynamite. Physical stature, humour, cheekbones and we know his voice isn't at all bad. He has it all, along with a fine excuse to raid the dressing-up box again. In fact, I'm amazed it hasn't been suggested already (or has it? I'm just too idle to check).

naw, Rufus is too attractive for Frank n Furter. It would ruin the whole idea of having some homely horsey raw boned man dressed in drag. That's part of the humor. And I haven't seen his legs in a few years, but I don't think he has the legs for it. They aren't nobby enough. And yes I think it has been mentioned before. If not here over on EMS.

Rufus as Wilberforce in AMAZING GRACE. Duh You only say that because you haven't seen his Thomas Clarkson. What they really should have done was made the film about Clarkson and made Wilberforce a secondary character.

That is what I have been wondering myself. Wasn't Clarkson the original motivator for the movement to ban slavery. Didn't he at one point come to Wilberforce to talk him into joining forces with him? So why was he not the focus of the movie? I don't know the whole story & maybe Wilberforce was able to accomplish more, but I wondered why Clarkson was being portrayed as a secondary character.

Oh God, I cannot imagine Rufus doing the time warp but I'm more than willing to learn! Maybe he could just do that scene for Red Nose Day or something and make us all happy.

I'd like him to take the Jimmy Stewart role in a remake of "Harvey" - a nice, whimsical, good-guy part in a lovely feel-good film that would be a smash hit and earn him an Oscar. Don't want much, do I? Or Indiana Jones.
