Just a tidbit of info........
Last month while I was waiting for my hair stylist I saw a small piece written in "Entertainment Weekly" about J. Depp filming the next "Pirates". The article stated that he would finish the "Tourist" in time to begin filming the next "Pirates" in July. I really don't think he wanted out of the "Tourist"...... just some media hype.

Your probably right about the media hype bit spice. I just can't help thinking that April seems early to be getting extras sorted when filming doesn't start until July. Maybe there are losts of scavenger scenes without JD in them that they need to film. They were particularly interested in scavenger types - tall thin, big noses etc in the advert. Sounds like fun doesn't it !

I don't think Johnny wanted out either I think he is too much the professional to pull the prima donna " I want out " act.

I agree with the comment that asking out of a film 'cause of his co-star doesn't sound like something Johnny Depp would do. He's quite the family man and a celebrity who manages a fairly low media profile given his immense popularity. The last thing he'd want is not only the image spoils a liason w/Angelina would engender, but even less the rumor that he unprofessionally wanted out of the film because his lady feared he might not be able to help himself. Gawd, that all sounds so ridiculous. If the story really was conjured to drum up some early publicity for The Tourist, that's pretty lame, but not all that surprising for the film industry. Of course as intrigueing, sexy and talented Depp is, he doesn't IMHO hold a candle to the hotness of El Roof. That's the bad boy I could really see Angelina going for if she has functioning eyes, ears, and a brain. (I mentally see you shaking your head up and down in emphatic agreement) Rufus is just her type in many ways. So, the other day I mentioned to my darling daughter the gist of the Tourist rumors, which I explained were most likely untrue but fueled by Angelina's past penchant for co-stars who happened to be other ladies husband/ fiance. (I only brought it up because daughter is a HUGE Mad Hatter & Johnny Depp fan--she is cast as the Hatter in her school play and won a prize for her "Mad Hatter" Munny on tomodachi's facebook site) So thus I was joking about the merits of Angelina's wonderful on -set handsome co-stars dilemma--Oh, who would she choose if she wanted to, Depp or Rufus?? Out of the mouths of babes my girl opined on the issue the very well with the astute observation that "Angelina wouldn't be interested in Rufus anyway. Because he isn't married." Isn't that funny? Must say I beg to differ with her pronouncement of course. I think a man as special as Rufus could make even THAT tiger change her stripes if he had a mind to.

Rufluvr, I think your daughter's comment had more to do with the need Angelina has to have someone who belongs to someone else than whether or not Rufus is desirable and given Ms Jolie's behavior her observation has a lot of merit.

Oh, I knew that was what she meant. That's why I thought it was so funny.

Speaking of merit, how's the book of "The Tourist" if there is one? Anyone know if the Tourist screenplay is based on the book of the same name that I saw on Amazon? Imdb just mentions screenwriters in relation to the film, not that it is an adaptation as far as I can tell (maybe I just missed it.)

I wanted to stop by and say hello! I have www.johnnydeppreads.com and am happy to answer your question about "The Tourist"..it's an adaptation of a 2005 French film Anthony Zimmer. You can see a bit about it here: www.imdb.com/title/tt0411118/ To the best of my knowledge the book "The Tourist" has nothing to do with this film. I can't wait to see Rufus and Johnny together! I've seen the original film and am really anxious to find out what character Rufus will play as all imdb says is "English Man." Depp plays "Frank" in the new film, the character was named Francois in the 2005 film. ~Karen

Thanks for the info Karen! I am going to try to see Anthony Zimmer as well, it has a great plot as evidenced by the synopsis posted on IMDB. They might be tweaking the characters in the new version a bit, if the listing of Jolie as an interpol agent is correct. (They only mention her character as being the mistress of the hunted, surgically-altered money launderer in Anthony Zimmer) Whatever Roof's role is, from the little we've seen of his scene with Jolie online, it looks like he is an agent of some sort, doing surveillance, a contact man, whatever. Not appearing to be the sinister type--yet. It's just great he was able to get in on this interesting movie. These types of movies are so intrigueing--especially when they actually manage to surprise the audience with a few things. Glad the Tourist is being made, esp. since production of the new Bond film's been halted due to $/the studio not being bought. Hope that starts up again soon--I'm always am excited to see the newest Bond flims on the big screen they are usually so cool.

Excellent find Germanlady According to the Sun it's due for release in December. It should be a good end to the year if we've got TPOTE, Zen & The Tourist to look forward to.
