So here's the thing. I know we all love Petruchio and Lord Marke and Charlie (and Mick Carpenter ;D), but i don't know about you guys, but i seem to have fallen into the trap of just rewatching my favourites.
Like the rest of you, my shelves are heaving under the weight of Rufus's collected works many of which i've only actually seen once or twice. So what i've decided is to rewatch the entire collection at the rate of one a week, and would like to invite you all to join me.
What i had in mind (and this isn't set in concrete by any means), is to utilise a very sophisticated random generator (ie, put all the titles in a hat) and pull one out each week to watch. It would be nice then to have some sort of discussion/review after we've all seen it.
Now i completely understand if you don't want to do it or it may be the case that you join in some times and not others and that's completely fine. I don't want to make up a lot of rules or anything. Frannie & i were in the habit of watching things on a Wednesday night, so we might stick with that but if you can watch on Sunday afternoon or Friday morning then that's fine.
Obviously some movies/tv shows/mini series are longer than others and can't be watched in one sitting so it's up to you how you decide to do it. You can split it up or just watch the Rufus bits (eg I don't expect many of us will watch the entire Arabian Nights when Rufus's Ali Babar is only a small part, but you might watch the whole of CharlesII over a couple of nights). It's completely up to you. It would be nice to actually watch the whole piece, but if you choose to just "roof" it, then that's up to you as well.
As i said, no rules.
As a guide, these are the works that i intend to watch (because i have them on my shelf), but obviously there may be some that you don't have. In that case, you might try checking out youtube for some clips or hiring the DVD or getting it on Netflix (not that i know what Netflix is or how it works but i know the US girls seem to watch quite a lot on it!!!!).
So here goes (and this is where you'll be amazed at how much there is that you hardly ever watch - i know i was). And i'll list the names in full for people who might not be aware of them:
Hamlet, She Creature, Legend of Zorro, Martha Meet Frank Daniel & Laurence (or The Very Thought of You), Paris Je T'aime, Gone To Seed, Extreme Ops, Twenty One, Amazing Grace, A Man of No Importance, Dirty Weekend, Arabian Nights, John Adams, In A Savage Land ( ;D), Bless The Child, Middlemarch, A Knights Tale, Dangerous Beauty (or The Honest Courtesan), Taming of The Shrew, Vinyan, Illuminata, Victory, Dark City, Helen of Troy, CharlesII (or The Last King), Carrington, The Illusionist, The Holiday, The Woodlanders, Cold Comfort Farm, Dowloading Nancy, Tristan & Isolde, Higher Love (or Uncorked or At Sachem Farm), Eleventh Hour.
(Not sure how we'll handle EH - maybe pick a couple of the best episodes to watch).
Anyhow, if you have anything to watch that's not on the list then let me know. And if you have any suggestions about how to do it differently then let me know too. As i said, this isn't set in concrete by any means.
So, completely optional, watch if you can, watch when you want, how you want etc etc.
At one a week, the list above will take us 34 weeks to watch the whole lot (and hopefully we'll get to watch TPOTE and maybe even some Zen along the way!!!)
If anyone's interested i'll do the first draw for next weeks movie tomorrow and post it here. If no-one's interested i'll still do the draw for next weeks movie tomorrow but i'll just keep quiet about it and watch it on my own..... all alone..... just me and my bottle of wine..... ;D
