As always rugirl, you and i are thinking alike on that one!!! Anyhow, i know you were all pleased with selection no 1 of The Movie of The Week, but you may not be so pleased with number 2!!! Under strict gaming commission controls, the second draw has taken place, and middle son has pulled out of the hat, John Adams!!! So i figure most people might need to hire this or something. And again it's long, very long - a seven part mini series. Took me several nights to watch it. And of course Rufus's appearances as Alexander Hamilton are quite limited. But he does a good job as usual, and as an upside, if you haven't watched this before it is very well made and i for one really enjoyed it. I've read some of the critisicm on the John Adams thread about the morals of the founding fathers etc etc, but leaving all that aside, as someone who didn't know that much about the establishment of government in the US, i found it absolutely fascinating. I also enjoyed the role played by Laura Linney as Adam's wife. And because i honestly didn't know what was going to happen next, i found it quite gripping. There was one particular thing that happened right at the very, very end that blew my freaking mind i have to say!!! So for me it falls into the "things i now know because of Rufus" camp. Keeping in mind that the whole point of the Movie of The Week is to get us watching those things we normally don't, i will definitely be watching this next Friday (and Saturday, and Sunday etc etc). Hope a few of you can too!!!! ;D

numbat said maybe it just got a bit boring Back to the movie choice for this week. I've actually only watched this once because I found it a bit long & drawn out. I'll give it another go. Like you numbat I didn't know about all that so it was quite an education. I think I might start a bit early on this one - once I've listened to the commentaries on Charles 2 which I realise I've not listened to before. I can pick up all the stuff I missed while I was gazing into his eye's then before I write my review. I've not had any tips on which disc's are better to get for Cold Comfort Farm & The Illusionist any advise would be appreciated though , before i go out and order the wrong ones from Amazon 21 & Hamlet have arrived and are patiently waiting their turn. When hubby saw Hamlet he said - well I'm going out later if you want to put it on ! Do you think he doesn't want to watch it ? LOL

Again a very good option!!! At this time is my copy on the way to me. I agree that it is education. It's such an education as taught Comenius-"School of play". So Numbat is the kind of teacher Nations here.

Thanks greeneyedlady - that's a very handy piece of info given that weekend is exactly when we should be watching it!!! Nell, my copies of CCF and The Illusionist don't have any extras to note. There is a commentary on The Illusionist and a "behind the magic" doco, but nothing really featuring Rufus. And i don't think CCF has anything at all except some photos. Make sure you watch the CII extras though - they are really good especially the interview with Rufus that was clearly filmed by somone with the hots for him!!!. And i don't blame your hubby for wanting to disappear when you watch Hamlet. Kenny gets a bit carried away - and the fake tan and blonde hair is all a bit much. The fellow playing Fortinbras is of course excellent.

The fellow playing Fortinbras is of course excellent. When it comes to Hamlet , Please , Please say we don't have to watch all of it. I love most Shakespeare but it does go on a bit and Branagh 's version goes on more than most. ( Am I on my own when I say no-one loves Kenny more than Kenny?) Can we just watch Roofie?

Hahaha, you can watch as much or as little as you like Frannie!!!
But don't start panicking about Hamlet, you've got John Adams to get through first ;D
(and yes, i think you're right, Kenny is indeed Kenny's biggest fan - my favourite part of Hamlet is when Rufus stalks in at the end, surveys the situation, gets the crown on, and has Kenny booted out!!! What more is there really???)
;D

Sorry, i'm a little bit behind posting this, but i was waylaid by a dripping wet Tom Builder....... in a cave Anyhow, this weeks movie of the week is actually quite a good pick seeing as it's very, very short and we're all a bit busy watching Tom erecting his big, um............ cathedral. Paris Je t'aimeWilliam: I don't know why they're all so obsessed with Tom and his big cathedral. I've got a big monument you know......Frances: Yes darling, i know you do. But let's face it. It's not really yours is it. It's Oscar Wilde's.William: Yeah, yeah......

ahhh wonderful. i had not seen that snippet of a scene in a while - no, i never saw the whole thing, and i dont know why but i dont intend to.
its surprising to see wes craven do something so light and so romantic. done wonders in 5 minutes, a lesson in cinema, almost.
this also might be one unsung comedic triumph by our rufus. watch his face at the end, having met with wilde he runs back to his fiancee and utters these phrases without knowing where they come from... the "right words". just watch his face as he says them and then his eyes go "what the f....?"
really funny funny stuff from our man right there.

It is quite nice. Very sweet and uplifting, and as Tip mentioned, a beautiful miniperformance from Rufus. I think I mentioned in the thread for this film (are we supposed to be discussing it there?), I couldn't really sympathize with Frances though. William was hilarious, just in a dry way.
The whole film ranged from pompous crap to really good. This was one of the best segments.
