I suppose this should be posted in Games , What I did before I logged on .... but it does relate to TPOTE. I had just signed on earlier this evening when my sister-in-law arrived (GRRR and when is she going was my hidden reaction to someone who is not only related but my friend ). I sat and talked pleasantly while I was itching to get back on line, when she said " have you been watching the fantastic new series on Channel 4? it's the most glorious fun and has a fabulous cast and that luscious Rufus Sewell is in it." I let her go on and on about him. I nearly told her about the Rooftop but self preservation clicked in . If she ever logged on she would find out all sorts of things hereto unknown about her sister-in-law. After all there ain't too many Frannies in Penarth. So I kept my mouth shut and just nodded in agreement to everything she said. Can I sink any lower?

Frannie--Don't feel bad. You did what your instinct told you to do. And the right thing I think, as well. Some things are special to us we want to protect them. You being able freely share your opinions and admiration of Rufus with others of a like mind without fear of judgement or recrimination from relatives & friends is a valid reason to keep mum. You can always share with her about it in the future if her Rufus interest becomes more than a passing fancy on her part and you feel comfortable to do so. (If she really learns to love 'im like we do, she'll end up here eventually anyway, hee hee) I made the mistake of sharing my interest in Rufus with a very close friend, and regretted it. It was poor judgement on my part to share with her because I had known of two of her former friends who broke off their friendship with her because of her sometimes critical and competitive bent (in a mostly fun and caring person). She is no longer my friend, and though the Rufus admiration-sharing thing was not the reason, it did not help. So, I say it never hurts to use discretion.

Rueful--thanks for posting that interview, I had not seen it. I appreciated what he shared about the directors style. I had really liked in POTE the way a lot of the shots started with a lot of movement and then slowly narrowed to the actor being featured in that scene. This was especially well done on the building site scenes, where it would pan over the whole construction and then come to Rufus making suggestions to the workers, patting his daughters head, and slapping the dust off his hands as he walked to begin the scene. Very nice technique that was used a lot. Not really new I don't think, but his liberal use of it made the series less stodgy and more alive.

I'm afraid keeping my mouth shut was down to being afraid of being found out, after all, I do write very explicit TOTS stories and post naughty Cap its . I love my sister-in-law dearly BUT she tells my brother everything. And there's no way I would put such a weapon in his hands. He wouldn't be shocked. He would torment me to death. And he might let it out to M(o)B. And God forbid, my mother might find out.!!!!!

I have just watched TPOTE episode 4... On Demand .
You know what that means ... I watched Tom die.
yes I cried ... and yes i am still very near to tears .
yes I had read the book so i knew Tom was going to die and
yes I knew from what everyone said it was going to be tonight. But it still came as a brutal shock . Tom.... Tom....
Yes I am going to read Kerry's story in hope it cheers me up .
But not tonight.

It's heartbreaking isn't it Frannie I watched it in the early evening and then cried all the way through dinner, much to the amusement of my family. And i've never watched the whole scene since. In my book it goes down alongside Giles as a truly, truly heartwrenching moment. The story i wrote was prompted by my dissatisfaction with that and some of the other things that happened in the final episode, but it probably won't cheer you up. It's just bittersweet........

I saw this before so was ready for it. I went away and watched the making of Vinyan immediately to cheer myself up. The news of the Zen preview worked wonders too !
Sorry for all those that experienced it for the first time. At least we had lots of Rufus in the actual episode though.

Just found a German interview: www.gala.de/stars/story/127088/Rufus-Sewell-Vergiss-mein-nicht.htmlHere' s a small summary of the interview, the more relevant parts more in detail (please apologize any mistakes in the translation): It says that Rufus is despite his parts in many films relatively unknown. He's often taken for Joaquin Phoenix and has a trauma about it: " Most of all people ask for an autograph, because they liked Gladiator so much - of all things the film in which Phoenix was so corpulent." After his part as Tom Builder in TPOTE this should change. The question was whether Rufus would like to be recognized in the street? "A certain degree out of recognition is OK, at least for my private life." At the moment Rufus' private life looks like: he lives half in UK and half in LA. " But I was never long enough away from my home country to miss English food." If he's not shooting a film, he spends much time with his son Billy; the 8 year old boy emanates from Rufus' second, meanwhile divorced marriage. Or he strolls around and takes pictures with his Leica. Mind you not before noon. Rufus is not a morning person: "Get up at seven and begin with jogging? Not at all! I'm completely lazy." But one project he is tracking: "I want to be on stage at all costs." Which means back to his roots, his career began at a London theatre.

It's worth to read the book before watching the movie and I nearly cryed too when I read that Tom dies. Yesterday I saw part 1, tonight part 2 and I will cry when the death scene comes By the way, my mam likes TPOTE too. It's that kind of film we both like most. Thanks walt, I saw that article yesterday. I hope I'll see him ones at the theatre in London, that would be very nice!
