Okay, time to put some flesh on the bones of the links! Just found this new review, which gives TPOTE 10 out of 10 : .......the performances are flawless. So flawless, I'm betting the casting director is getting a raise. Rufus Sewell brings the perfect amount of passion and vulnerability to Tom Builder. His moments of inspiration are stunning. He was the last person I pictured in the role, but now I can't think of anyone more suited.uk.tv.ign.com/articles/110/1109045p1.htmlIt's one thing for us to say Rufus would be/is terrific in this role, but for someone who clearly loved the book to concede that, against expectations, he was perfect as Tom is praise indeed. Yay for Rufus!

I'd say he's right on schedule in his plan for world acting domination.

You know ... I was thinking about that recent interview in which Rufus expressed more of his displeasure about his experiences in filming Eleventh Hour.
I just finished listening to the audiobook of "American on Purpose," Craig Ferguson's memoir, and in it Craig related his experiences of filming a sitcom in America. He noted that it is quite a different experience from filming a sitcom in Britain.
He said in Britain, actors are considered a collaborative partner in the production and their input is often sought and welcomed and can result in changes to the scripts as well as other aspects of the production.
In America, though, the big networks view actors more as interchangeable objects [my words] to be fit into slots and their input is most definitely NOT welcomed. In fact, it is usually resented and ignored. It's as though they are meant to just say the words handed to them and look pretty. No wonder Rufus was disgusted.
I'm sure it's not completely true for all TV shows, depending upon who is running the show. But since EH was a big glitzy production by that big glitzy producer Bruckheimer, I guess it's not too surprising it turned out that way.

This is both a review and recap of the third episode, by the same person GE2 quoted above. Because it's a recap, there are spoilers, so beware. I'll take the discussion of the spoiler-type information over to the series thread. Like the first one, it's very positive about the series, although Rufus isn't mentioned specifically this time. But I like to think this is an oblique reference to Rufus's talents that she mentioned in her previous review. Here, she's talking about the actor playing Stephen. tv.ign.com/articles/110/1109800p1.html
