Oh yes, that tower scene with Jonathon...so endearing. Loved how Tom gently urged Jonathon to pay attention when he wanted to tell him that he was his father (at least it seemed he was about to)...but didn't get the chance. And the time you just see a hand hauling the boy back away from the bear when he gets to close, to see that it was his father doing so. Loved that.

Oh yes, the bear scene was also very beautifully done.
Rufus should definitely do the daddy thing more often, I love his way with kids.

I think one of Rufus' best moments ever on film was his reaction when Jack finally told Tom that he had burned the priory church down so that Tom would have work, so the family could stay there. That subtle, yet powerful display of the myriad of emotions which went flickering accross Tom's face in that scene was just heartwrenching. It was also incredible acting. Such looks of raw emotion, and the inflection of it into his words as well are Rufus' great art. Great description of this scene, Rufluvr! It was so powerful to watch and a master class in acting from Rufus. All the other ep 5 scenes Rufluvr and KMK have mentioned are wonderful, too! They are the reason this episode is by far my favorite of the series. Rufus should definitely do the daddy thing more often, I love his way with kids. Yes! Wouldn't you love to see him in a comedy with kids?

Hee! Now I have visions of him in the Michael Keaton role in Mr Mom!
(And have you noticed how his favourite word for a couple of years now is "screwball"? I bet he was an I Love Lucy fan!!)

I immediately thought of Kindergarten Cop II - Roof would be a heck of a lot better than Aaaahhhnold.

Rufus did a bit of the Mr.Mom thing in those ending credit pictures in TOTS--It was so cute and sweet. The happy family where the hubby and wifey just do what they do best.
"Screwball" is his somewhat recent catchphrase? Hadn't noticed it. We sure know he'd love some work where that word could be used as a descriptive. Here's hoping he finds it, as it would please him, and suit his talents. There's a strong contingent of TOTS admirers around here who would be over the top with a sequel. Or some other new fun project in that type of vein. Fingers crossed.

Those are all fabulous ideas! Do you hear us, Movie Producers? These would be surefire hits, at least around The Rooftop.

this is totally ridiculous, that movie people cannot see the comic actor in there.
he is cary grant and donald o'connor all rolled into one!! (and a lot prettier. and sexier. )
for heaven's sake, how many actors could have pulled off the cross dressing sequence in TOTS??? he did it better than dustin hoffman, for crying out loud!!!

TOTS was what I thought of - the pictures at the end with the three little boys are so funny and sweet and it looks like he and the kids had a jolly good time together After lots of period and action stuff, I also think it's time for directors to make use of his great comic talents as well.

He is so nice and witty in interviews, you would think casting people would pick up on that. Maybe that will start to happen for him. Would love to see him in more comedy.

I am in the middle of watching TPOTE for the second time and am enjoying it more this time . Perhaps it was because I had the book so thoroughly in my mind the first time. As I said I'm only half way through but I am finding it more impressive. The fantastic sets and the massive long shots of them.. the photography is really superb. And I'm finding the acting out weighing the anomalies of the writing. As others have said Tom's scenes with the baby are so emotional and finely acted but then that is only what we have come to expect from Rufus.
To tie this up with the GG awards( I have already said my piece about them.) I think that the people who give out awards seem to choose flamboyant performances as evil people, actors going over the top and having the time of their lives, whereas the quiet strong performances as gentle GOOD people, are frequently ignored. Perhaps they think it is harder to act the villain than to act a good man, genuinely so and not a soppy pious one LIKE RUFUS AS TOM . the goodness shines out of him. also Matthew MacFadyen as Philip I love TPOTE and I love Tom .

And I think it is at least as hard to portray a truly good and kind character authentically without making him feel like some sugary caricature.

Finished watching TPOTE last week. Still getting over the trauma!
Can't say too much cause some of you Rufus fans may not have caught up with it yet (where on earth have you been), but needless to say Rufus was fantastic and passionate as Tom Builder. Although sad I will watch again and again.
Is there no end to this man's talents?
More Rufus please XX

I was in Best Buy this weekend and saw a copy of not only this but also The Illusionist without looking for them. Now, you all have to remember, my Rufusitis came over me fast and furious and is still relatively new. So I, of course, reacted with the fangirly-ist of squeals at seeing even the smallest image of him in a somewhat unexpected place. My fangirly squeal was so high and so sudden that a store associate actually ran over to me and asked if I was alright! I can only imagine what I would be like in Rufus' actual presence. Forget any fangirl squealing, I'd probably faint dead on the floor.
