Janet, I was really sorry Tom was killed too. I don't think that it was just because I was missing Rufus. I felt like Tom was the heart of the story, and after he was gone, the story lacked a center to some extent.
The book is different from the series. I was glad I saw the series first, because I think if I was a fan of the book, I'd have been annoyed with a lot of the changes, some of which were unnecessary and outright dumb. However, overall, I liked the series a lot; the actors were very good, and it was a really interesting historical period. I think you should watch the end of the series just so you can get the wrap up!

TPOTE is showing for the second time in a few months on our spanish PBS, VME. Tom met his demise last night, so no reason for me to keep watching. Odd how you really don't need to understand much spanish to enjoy Rufus and his work when it dubbed...lol.

Did they give him a good Spanish voice?

No, not so much. Sounded a bit thuggish to me, lol. But replicating his voice would be a tall order. Matthew MacFayden's was very similar to the original I though.

I'm excited. Why? I went to look for some Rufus in our local Hastings, and I was able to rent TPOTE in its entirety. Methinks there will be a marathon in my very near future.

I ended up watching the thing in two days. I watched the first four on a Saturday night and the other four that following Sunday afternoon. AMAZING. That's the one word I can think of to describe this. This miniseries has everything you could possibly find wrapped up into one series. I'm not a cryer, but there were a couple of times when I cried. (The bit that comes to mind is in the first installment, when Tom leaves the baby on his mother's grave. ) There were also times when I cheered. (e.g. when Prior Philip told Wayleran off towards the end. Brilliant.) If the miniseries is that great, I can't imagine what the book is like. I may have to check it out from the library and find out.

I do love Rufus Sewell in almost all his roles and in TPOTE he's splendid - but I found the series flawed and I haven't been able to enjoy it as much as I'd hoped I would. I suppose its just the historical inaccuracies that bug me here, although I don't know why inaccuracies in T&I don't bother me yet in KT they do... Still the remarkable thing about Rufus is that he is wonderful and believable in everything he does - I'll just enjoy the series just for him ...
love kq
