Tom's last scene itself is heartbreaking enough, but what always gets me even worse is when Philip talks to "Brother" Jonathan about his father I agree, these two scenes are gut-wrenching! Such a sad end for a fine man and father who always did the best he could for his family. I just loved seeing him act around children, he's such a natural. Even in little things like the dance in episode 4 (I think!) where he invites Martha to dance with him by extending his arms and wiggling his fingers - so cute!

That's one of my favourites, Roxy. You're right, any scene involving Rufus with children is always guaranteed to be so sweet! (Well, actually, his role in Bless the Child which involved a child could be debatable... )

Pillars of the Earth is airing again on TV here and this week was the episode where Rufus dies. It still makes me sad, even though I've seen it a billion times! Rufus' acting in that scene is flawless... as always.

This scene always gets me, too. It's so beautifully done. My favourite bit is when he signals William to move aside so that he can see his cathedral one last time

Poor Tom, he was a simple man who only wanted to provide for his family and build the cathedral of his dreams. I have a hard time watching his last episode because I know that scene is coming.

do you want to see perfect? check out tom. whatever weight that was (and I think it was somewhere in the middle, because his cheekbones were not quite as pronounced, but he also didn't have the little bit of fullness at the chin like Charles does_, whatever degree of tan that was, whatever he wore to influence the depth of color in his eyes, whatever length his hair was -- it was all THE BEST!!!! And then he died. Anglo mentioned this in the recent Rufus pics thread (the "W" Magazine appearance), but I wanted to elaborate on it over here (because things would have gotten off topic otherwise). I agree a million percent, Anglo. I was recently going through some of my screencaps and came across my collection of Tom shots, and I just sat at my laptop and sighed. And sighed. And sighed again. It's true. He is perfection in that role. I love all of his "fuller-bodied" roles: Aggie, Marke, Charles, Tom. That look suits him very much in real life, I think, and I most definitely wouldn't complain if he were to ever make it permanent ;D In regards to Tom, though, I want to give a great big fat kiss to whoever was responsible for his costuming, his hair, everything. Obviously, a big kiss is deserved to Ken Follett for creating Tom in the first place. I'm long overdue in a re-watch of TPOTE and I never did a proper review of it when I watched the first time around, but I have a free weekend coming up, so there's a good chance I'll be back to gush some more ;D

He is perfection in that role. Oh, YES Nothing to add to that. I agree. I wasn't always satisfied with the costumes etc., especially the wigs in the final episode were more than debatable - but in Tom's case, they chose the perfect colouring to make him look even more beautiful.

I just got the dvd of TPOTE, only cost $20 can you believe that? Just finished watching episode 1, trying to conserve the rest, it will be very hard not to watch it all at once. It may be a while until I can track down some more Rufus stuff, why is his stuff so hard to get, especially in Australia? I used one of the Tom wallpapers for my laptop, I still get the quivers every time I turn it on and he is looking straight into my eyes, . I am slowly working my way through the wallpaper thread, so many beautiful pictures, I get overloaded after a few pages and have to stop and do something else for a while, I have added them to my necessary daily medication

Enjoy it Toxophilite. It was on Starz weekly here so it took about four weeks to play out. The great thing about the dvd is you can watch it anytime.

Every time I boot it up , there he is and I talk to him. Samples : 'Hello darling' 'How are you today' and 'Bye darling' ......when I go Some people might think I need medication but I get all the medication I need just looking at him. As you can see I owe a lot of thanks to VG. BTW Have you tried buying from Amazon? We had an Australian Rooftopper who used to get all her stuff from there. and it was cheaper.

Have just finished a marathon session watching all but the last episode. I haven't read the book, so wasn't sure quite what to expect, except a large dose of Rufus. One thing I didn't understand was why Tom was killed. I assume it was because William is a sadistic person and did it just because he could. It seemed utterly pointless to me, perhaps it was meant to be. I tried to stretch out my viewing to make it last longer but then I couldn't wait to see what happened next. The only reason I missed the last episode was so that I could watch one of my regular TV shows, a new series of "Bones", for those who know the show. I might go and watch the last episode now, it's cold, wet and windy here today, good weather for a good movie, Janet
