Noticed on IMDb The Sea is listed in pre-production and Rufus to play Carlo Grace. Not sure how reliable this is...they still have Usher listed. Didnt know if anyone knew about this.

kygal. This is the first time i've seen mention of The Sea. The cast list certainly looks very comprehensive but no other info really. www.imdb.com/title/tt1754708/Here's the wiki entry for John Banville's book which won the Man Booker prize in 2005. Unfortunately Ciaran Hinds appears to be playing the main character, Max. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sea_(novel)Some further investigation is in order i think. Rai!!! Have you heard anything? Thanks for finding this kygal! ;D

! No, kygal, certainly hadn't seen anything about this - thank you for finding it! Ciarán Hinds? Sinéad Cusack? Rosamund Pike? I can see why he'd take this on, just for the co-stars! Oh, please let it be true! And thanks for the Wiki link, Numbat. How can there be so little info about this production?

Yay!!!! It appears he's the lead actor too, since his name is mentioned first! (Too bad he's not doing The Ushers, even though it's still listed. That would be a cool role.)

Fascinating! I sure hope this is for real (unlike The Ushers). Rufus, dear, you really need to get in touch with your friend, Rai, and give her an update!

Here is a link to a page on Ciaran Hinds fansite about The Sea: www.ciaranhinds.eu/movie.php?cle=mov77If you scroll down you'll find various links including one for the production company and the director. Wichi, although Rufus is listed first on IMDB, it appears that Ciaran Hind's character Max Morden, is in fact the lead role. But of course, we still don't really know whether Rufus is in this until he confirms it himself. As kygal said, he's still listed on IMDB as being in The Ushers. The Sea does seem to be a bit more up his alley mind you, especially with that impressive list of co-stars (if they've actually signed up that is!!).

Greetings from France,
To introduce myself, let's just say that I'm one the three ladies who run Ciaran Hinds' fansite (thanks for the link).
The Sea is a project that has been lingering for at least two years. I assume that it's the fate of most independant movies. We have asked Ciarán and his agent several times during the two past years and the answer has always been "not confirmed".
Now the information appears on IMDB. It's generally a reliable source although we have no confirmation yet.
If the movie is faithful to the book, yes, Ciarán Hinds will be the lead (I'm sorry for the disappointed lady who does not like him that much, but Mr Sewell is too young to play Max).
Best regards
Sylvie

Thanks very much for the information Sylvie.
We weren't aware of this project before it recently appeared on IMDB so I assume Rufus's name has only recently been linked to it. We have had a similar situation with The Ushers which has been listed on IMDB for a long time now, but which Rufus has consistently denied being involved with. I guess we don't really know for sure until they sign on the dotted line!
And apologies, i didn't mean to imply that i didn't like Ciaran, just that it was unfortunate (for us) that Rufus didn't have the lead role. As you say he isn't old enough to play Max so it makes perfect sense, but we always like to see our man in the lead role as i'm sure you can well understand.
Of course we all enjoyed Ciaran alongside Rufus in Amazing Grace. If the full cast as listed turns out to be accurate, The Sea should be a similarly wonderful production.

Sounds like an interesting new project for Rufus. Looking forward to a confirmation someday soon.

Unfortunately, I've just got the news from his management that Ciarán won't be in it. But I do not know if it's just him who can't do it or the whole project that is abandoned. Therefore, I'm sorry I won't give you more data about Rufus Sewell and the other actors and we do not know who updated the IMDB.

Oh, what a shame Sylvie. Thanks for your help anyway.
Will be interesting to see if the project proceeds at all.
Generally we know when Rufus has signed to a new project, so it may just have been rumour after all. Good old IMDB - as unreliable as ever!!!

Many thanks to all of you for the information. This sounds like it could be good. You know what they say - no smoke without fire ! I'll keep my fingers crossed that we get some news some time soon - one way or another. Look how many lead changes the Tourist had and it came to fruition.
Fingers crossed !
