Glad to hear that our US-girls are okay. Crossed my fingers that all the other girls we have not heard from are also okay. What's about the girls in Australia?

We've been having this recurrent schedule of snow storm since the week of New Year's Eve and it hits on either Tuesday/Wednesday then Friday/Saturday constantly. Pretty strange but it's sadly true. Before the last two blizzards, our state snow counts was 50" and not sure what's now. We've been having school cancellations almost every week where some part of the states (Worchester mostly got hit the hardest) experienced no electricity. The worst part is the collapsed roofs, not sure how many but we got one last week on a garage/car shop, church, people's house and today I just saw on telly an office building in Easton (about 1/2 hour from me) with 180 people in it collapsed, but fortunately they said everybody's safe and now they're dealing with the gas leak aftermath. The concern is high for flat roofs on commercial buildings as snows sit still storm after storm. My husband is a medical courrier so he's still have to be on the road no matter what and on the storm days, he'd be out for straight 15 hours even though the airport closed to ship the speciments..... Today is mostly rains which is another problem as temperature dropped, there will be black ice concerned on the road. I was thinking for PrairieGirl too, I know the last time a blizzard hit, we got pretty good conversation about how nasty it was. I hope she's ok.... So, for every one affected; if you can just stay home, please do so....it's not worth your precious life to be out there if you don't have to and please check your Roof (not the Sewell one !) if you've been experiencing the repeating snow falls.... Love

Uh guess this isn't the time to mention that it's 70 degrees and sunny here in Virginia?
But to all the rooftoppers in the mid-west and north-east, I feel your pain. Glad I'm not sharing it, but I do sympathize. Please stay safe and warm.
And Judy, as Texas is another state like Virginia that's not used to bad weather - I'm glad you don't have to be on the roads on Friday. Nothing like a bunch of freaked out southerners trying to drive on ice/snow.

Glad to hear you're OK, Rueful and Sewellme. Yep, we've had "thundersnow" here in Kansas too. I was watching the weather channel last night and their reporter was on Michigan Avenue when the thundersnow was happening. Unfortunately, their censors weren't quite quick enough to censor his reaction! It was pretty funny!
I'm freezing my butt off (I wish it would literally freeze off, or just down some!). It's 12 F (-11 C) and the wind chill makes it seem like -5 F (-20 C). We have a very cold night coming tonight then it's supposed to start warming up tomorrow. So far the only casualty in our home is a toilet that's frozen. Of course it's my toilet. It will unfreeze probably tomorrow. But in the meantime, I have to use the guy's. Ewwww!!

Frozen toilet sounds unpleasant, hope that will get sorted out quickly!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for everyone, particularly those who need to be on the road no matter what the weather.
We had a little return of winter this morning with a very thin, almost invisible ice sheet on the street. I hardly managed to reach my car (perhaps 20 meters away from my front door) without falling. Fortunately winter service had been on the main streets so my way to work was safe after all.
That cyclone looks very scary, I hope there will be as little casualties and damage as possible!

I know there's been a few storms in Western Australia (that's where Numbat's from, right?), but Yasi wouldn't have affected it happily. It's been Queensland that's been hit really hard, although they did say on the news that it's been downgraded to a category 2 cyclone now that it's started moving inland so hopefully that helps spare other towns... Obviously I can't speak for Numbat, but if it helps I haven't heard anything about weather in Perth on the news, or from family who are there at the moment, and as the saying goes no news is good news! I think the rest of Australia's ok, although Sydney has a heatwave on that's not meant to end till Monday. Such crazy weather all over the world at the moment! Hope everyone with snow and other weather disasters is doing ok!!

I'm freezing my butt off (I wish it would literally freeze off, or just down some!). If that method worked, it would give me a new love of the cold! Ick! Hope that situation gets resolved soon. I also hope you have heard from your brother and that he and his family are doing fine. The news said that the whole northern part of Indiana was in a state of emergency yesterday. It's bitterly cold here, too. I think it dipped below 0F early this morning. But the sun is shining down on all those piles of fluffy white snow, so it looks nice. Our only casualty has been reliable internet access. Since I signed in yesterday morning, service has been so slow and sketchy that I couldn't log-in. But in the scheme of things, that's not really anything to complain about. Sewellme, the video of that building collapse was scary!! I hope you and all the other eastcoasters can stay safe and warm! I'm glad that the cyclone is easing up. Thanks for the info, Rousse. They showed that there was a lot of damage, but so far, no deaths. I pray it stays that way.

Thank you Rousse for the updates, just like Rueful said, I also hope that there'll be no casualty because the damage itself will take time to repair emotionally for all the victims. I hope the cyclone downgrades to nothing soon as well as the heat wave! @wichi: So glad you're all right even with the frozen toilet!! Here we're keeping one of our faucet dripping overnight to keep it from freezing up (don't know who came up with the theory but I got a huge bowl under for I hate wasting water!) rueful: I thought you were from MN too? or was I wrong? I saw how the building was tilted badly prior collapsing and imagine trying to be calm doing the evacuation procedure. rumantic: I actually be glad to check it for you instead ;D My latest news: Snow falls hits 70.5" as of yesterday, there will be another snow storm coming this weekend and big possibility on next Tues/Wed....I don't see any break for us soon but we'll do our best.

Stay safe all you ladies in the snow zone. My advise stay indoors. We had alot of trouble in Blighty with bolier malfunctions when the water condensed and froze boilers ceased to function. I hope none of you get this problem. Some of you may recall hubby slipping on the ice in December - while at work and dislocating his shoulder. Well now he's being penalised for it by his company

Nell, so sorry to hear about your hubby, but how can you penalize someone who has been injured? Sounds like the US, sorry to say. I got fired while on disability for a back injury last year, which was illegal. Hope your husband is on the mend, and a pox on his employer!

Thanks for the updates, everyone, and please take care and stay safe. The weather's an awesome thing, one of the few that man can't control, but extreme weather seems almost the norm now. Hope things return to normal very soon for you all. Some of you may recall hubby slipping on the ice in December - while at work and dislocating his shoulder. Well now he's being penalised for it by his company What??!! In what way, Nell? Hopefully not what you imply.
