There are a great many Rooftoppers who are dealing with potentially deadly weather right now....do you think when the dust clears anyone affected by blizzards, ice storms, cyclones, floods and etc could let us all know you're ok? I know I've been thinking of many of you today (fortunately I'm in a sweet spot where we just got a little freezing rain...)

I can't complain about weather disasters, and I do hope that no one on the Rooftop is struck by any of these freaks of nature.

Dont have it as bad as most...just wind today. Cant wait until spring..no summer! Think Rueful may have won the prize for worst weather today. I heard they cancelled school for the first time in 16 years due to weather. A little snow or ice can shut things down in the south.
Judy...how are things in TX. Are you ready for the Super Bowl? At least it is inside.

We made it through the night, thanks very much for asking!! It was something to see last night. The winds were incredible (we got some tree branches down, but they didn't hit anything but grass). At points there were thunder and lightning, which I've never seen during a snowstorm before. The weather reporters here are so excited to have their brand new word, "thundersnow". Visibility was almost zero. However, I was watching it all from the safety of my front windows, so I have nothing to complain about. A lot of people were stranded in their cars for hours and hours. It's still snowing now, but the winds have died down. It's really hard to tell how much snow accumulated because of the drifts. Next to my car, there is a drift that looks to be about 4 ft high (I'm not going out to measure though), and then part of the roof of my car is totally clear of snow. No one's going anywhere today, so I'm going to go enjoy a bit of Charlie this morning!

Rueful, good to hear from you! Stay safely at home and have fun with Charming Charlie. We had some extreme snow around Christmas, people having to sleep in their cars on the motorways and lots of accidents, roofs breaking down under heavy snow and everything

Oh, so glad you got through it okay, Rueful, and that you're safe! Thanks for letting us know. Is that it now, has it passed, or is there still a chance of more to come?
I've only seen thundersnow once, in January a few years ago. Very strange phenomenon, isn't it? This was after dark, and the clouds were a very weird colour while it was happening. This was in the UK, not even somewhere exotic!
Enjoy Charlie!

Hi you Rufgirls in the southern states of the US. Hope you are all taking care and looking after yourselves. I got stranded in my car here in Englad just before Christmas when I ventured into Derbyshire when it was threatening snow. I had to be rescued (luckily by a friend) andhad to stay overnight. Keep inside and warm. Its an excuse to watch a Ruf dvd! I will be thinking of you all and watching the news. Hope you have better weather coming.

Judy...how are things in TX. Are you ready for the Super Bowl? At least it is inside. So far it's just cold, cold, cold! The temperature is not going to get much above freezing the next couple of days. And we've still got snow/sleet/ice predicted for overnight Thursday night. Thank goodness I had already planned to take Friday off! I can't imagine trying to drive to work in that mess. The other fun thing we're dealing with is rolling blackouts that have been ordered by the group that manages the electrical grid for the state. The neighborhood just a block east from my home was totally blacked out when I drove through this morning. Including the traffic signals. That was fun. As to the Super Bowl, it's going to be hard for all the fans who paid such huge sums of money for tickets and hotel rooms to even make it to Dallas. Yesterday, the main airport (D/FW) was completely closed all day! It could be that Texas Stadium will have some vacant seats on Sunday. I'm wondering about the poor Australians in Queensland. What with the horrible floods and now an unbelievably huge cyclone blowing through ... just what they didn't need. The good news, though, is that Punxsutawney Phil did NOT see his shadow today! That means an early spring! Happy Groundhog Day everyone!

Thanks to all who have checked in so far.....still waiting for word from Judy in Texas, I know Kansas City got hit hard, so would like to hear from Wichi, and PrairieGirl in Minnesota....Also, I know that there is a really big typhoon hitting Australia right now (Queensland, I think, so not so near to Numbat and Quoll, I don't think) so it would be good to hear from our friends down under, too.
Glad to hear so far that everyone is warm and safe and dry.
P.S. I was posting this at the same time Judy gave her reply....I lived in Arlington in the 90s and we had an ice storm on New Year's Eve once, it was a mess of epic proportions. I don't even want to think about all the football crazed fans making it worse (and yes, paying hundreds of dollars for a ticket, not to mention lodging and travel costs, and then getting stuck in a flipping ice storm would really, really stink!)

The weather reporters here are so excited to have their brand new word, "thundersnow". Oooh! How creepy, scary, weird! I saw on Twitter that gusts in the Chicago area had been clocked at over 70 mph! (And parts of Wrigley Field had blown off!) That sounds like an excellent plan!

Glad to hear everyone in the US is okay, if cold. By the way, has anyone heard from Numbat? I haven't seen her here in a while and wondered if the storm/cyclone had affected her -hopefully not!
Western US is fine, no complaints save for a quake now and then.
