A pity that we don't have our own Colonna within the British government to pull some strings for us.
I'm still hoping that Zen will be successful in other countries and be continued after all. (That reminds me it's time for pestering the ZDF again!)

I still think the hope for Zen to return lies with producer Andy Harries/left bank finding it a new home. Hes the one who we need to keep in contact with. Doubt Danny C will get the axe, but as Zen says, would love to have his head....on a plate! I'll do what I can also.

I appreciate your support, Fudge, but I'm afraid we'll have repeat the things we have done in the past - except someone has got new ideas, which would be most welcome.
Up to now I think we wrote/mailed to BBC our protest against the axing of Zen in every possible way: by email, written letters, comments on Zen at their homepage, facebook......IMHO the best chances to be heard at BBC were the opinions of UK residents, I'm not sure whether the voices from abroad were so welcome. They may have got the impression that there were people who saw Zen for free - I don't know whether they looked at the dvd sales list of amazon. And we wrote to Andy Harris (the producer of Zen) at Left Bank Pictures to encourage them to go on with another season of Zen. We also tried to make other broadcasters interested in taking over BBC's (financial) part of Zen. As BBC's financial part was 40% (as far as I know) that would of course be a substantial sum. Some of our non-UK residents also wrote to their local TV companies and asked when they would broadcast Zen (e.g. the German ZDF, which has also financed Zen).
Up to now the only result seems to be that Danny Cohen still thinks it is necessary to vindicate his decision. And it may be helpful that the first season was sold to other broadcasters and will hopefully get the good reviews it deserves.
Are there any (new) ideas what we can do now instead of waiting?

Did anybody else catch Danny Cohen being interviewed on Points of View on Sunday? The programme started with a few viewer comments and a video of one complaining about dramas being axed, including Zen. Clips from the show were interspersed with the comments. The host specifically put Zen to Cohen, and the slimy toad wouldn't even refer to it directly, just making the same bland comment about getting the balance right. What a twerp! If you want to/can watch, it's on i-Player here: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01113vq/Points_of_View_2011_Episode_5/The viewer on the video says "the BBC seems to be forgetting the audience that wants sophisticated drama" and then asks "Has the BBC forgotten that sector of its audience, and does it care about them anymore?" [the answer to that is clearly "no"] and "I think the BBC should show confidence in its original commissioning decisions, and take the time to build a long-term relationship with the viewer, rather than dismiss the long-term success of a programme on the basis of a very few episodes". How right that man is! Can we make him the new controller, please? ;D

I saw Points of View GE2! I was eating my tea at the time and felt a strong compulsion to start throwing food at my TV screen when DC was giving his non-answer to the interviewer about Zen - and how many times did he say the word 'balance'?! It was like listening to a politician speak! I watched Cabal on DVD later that evening - i really enjoyed watching it again, but it left me feeling somewhat sad that this could be end of the road for our Zen

I missed that but have just watched it. Thanks for posting GE2.
I do think folks are flogging a dead horse with Danny Cohen now it's still nice to see him getting an ear bashing though and good on Jeremy Vine. I can't help feeling he's also a Zen fan.

I think it was good that the main criticism came from a man - at least they can't dismiss the objections as hormone-driven!

LOL! Did you notice that ITV have shown two new crime dramas in the last week with the lead detective being female?

Thanks for posting that Points of View programme GE2. It was very interesting to watch the slimeball. I think the fact that he deliberately ignored giving Jeremy a direct answer regarding Zen proves that he realises how many people are outraged at his decision. Obviously this will not affect his decision as he obviously thinks he is right. I am not saying I will never watch BBC again if they were to show a really good drama but nothing they showed here relating to future programmes would tempt me at all. I think the standards of the BBC will go down with him in charge and I agree with the viewers shown on the programme. I think it will come out in the end. His decisions are bad. I am still keeping my fingers crossed that some other t.v. company will buy into Zen if it proves a popular show abroad.

I think it was good that the main criticism came from a man - at least they can't dismiss the objections as hormone-driven! Good point, GE2! Mr. Cohen really does nothing to make me revise my opinion that he's an, erm, idiot (there are some other words I'd rather use, but they'd get me expelled from the board ) Still it's nice to see that there seem to be a whole lot of people out there in the non-Rufian universe who loved Zen because it simply was good crime drama with fine actors and nicely twisted plots.

Just seen this in the mirror on the 29 4 2011. WHODUNIT? WHO AXED THE.. terrific TV series starring Rufas Sewell as Italian detective Aurelio Zen, watched by 6 million viewers? New bbc controller Danney Cohen did,as he thinks there are :too many: male detectives on screen. This must be the first time a telly mogul has scrapped a show because it;s too popular. What a prat. Thats the quote with a picture of Rufas alongside.

That quote about sums it up fudge!! Thanks for finding that. Makes me more hopeful that as Zen is shown around the world the more people that appreciate how good it is can only add to the pressure for some company with foresight to make more Zen!!
