I had the chance to listen to Arcadia while on the train to Strasbourg........ ! Thanks so much, quoll, for making sure I had it all before I left! I just loved it and wish so much I had had the opportunity to see it! I've heard so much about R&R being hard to understand........but I found Arcadia to be very easy to understand and very amusing! I loved Rufus' character!

Coincidentally, I read Arcadia and then listen to it while following along with the script last week. I also enjoyed it very much. I thought it was very funny, until the very sad ending. I was so pleased that I managed to pick up on the various literary references and jokes. I preordered Rock'N'Roll recently, but I fear that it will be over my head. I'll just have to muddle through until it begins to make sense to me. I think that I'll actually gain a better understanding from reading the play than I might from watching the play.

I don't think there is anything in Rock n Roll that will be over your head Ree. The best part about Stoppard's work is you can take it on any level you choose. It's a pretty good tale without all of the messages and symbolism, but if you like they are there to play with. And not to worry. There are several what I call "Stoppard themes" If you don't get them this time, they'll be in his next play too. the play loses a lot without the music. They need to do a soundtrack so you can listen to it while you read it--an entire sensory experience.

I've wanted to make a RnR soundtrack for a while now. Like the mixtape of all mixtapes/playlist of all playlists. Still want to do it. No time!

I read "Arcadia" on one of my vacations, so it was really cool to be able to hear the radio play version as well. Its one of those "I want to go back in time and see this" plays. LOL.

The one big regret of my life is that I wasn't into theatre when I was 12 and pestering my parents to take me to this great new Stoppard play at the National Theatre in London...
And my first choice of stop if time travel is ever invented. And then right off to Woodstock.

I just finished reading Arcadia last night, ohh the boy! Even gave me a quick crush on Byron for a few pages... That's sortof a twist of an ending, happiness but.
(and Where is this audio version? I could hear him so clearly as I read it, felt like he was right with me.)

Oh his young voice! It's gotten huskier as he goes along... (and he laughs! eee)
Plus, Sam West! Bill Nighy!
Thanks sweetie.

Plus, Sam West! Bill Nighy! I know, what a cast, eh? This is one of those plays where if there were time travel, I'd go back in time to see this one! LOL.

Okay, just listened to the radio play of "Arcadia" again, and was it just me, or did Emma Fielding just sound too old to play a 13 through 17 year old Thomasina? Yes, I know she was only 23 at the time, but the way she plays the part, its like she forgot what it was like to be that age, even though it wasn't that far off for her. I'm not saying I thought she wasn't good otherwise, but its the first thing that struck me when I heard her voice. To me, she sounded like a grown up playing a 13 year old, not a 13 year old. I mean, I don't know about her, but my voice changed from age 13-17. You know? Am I making any sense, or being too critical?

Yep, I thought the same thing! I immdiately thought that an adult was playing that part, and that she did NOT sound like a young teen at all!
I'm glad I wasn't the only one!

I'm just listening to it now, and I agree Emma Fielding sounds unconvincing as a 14 year old.
