After someone mentioned to me that they had read somewhere that Rufus was being considered for this role, I started looking for information and came across this site, which is only speculation but considering how well this series did and the massive following (me being one ;D) wouldn't it be great if he got this major role! Even though the majority of the comments on this link favour Mark Strong, I feel this is probably more to do with the appearance, but I definitely can see Rufus as Stannis! winter-is-coming.net/2011/02/casting-season-two-stannis

Great series. Looking forward to series 2. Be wonderful if Rufus was cast as Stannis Baratheon. Also got a return affection for Sean Bean in the series, had been missing for sometime. Thank you Ruthie Love Ophelia

Now, what can we do... We can all wish strongly the chosen one is Rufus! Wonderful find Ruthie2910! I posted a comment there already. I hate when people mention Rufus as blah, blah, blah and then "but he was great as Zen". He has been great as many other characters...

Not read the book or seen the first series, but if you all think he'd be perfect for it, I'll go along with that! Now all we have to do is persuade him. Thanks, Ruthie!

Well, if he gets that part, I'm going to have to jump on this Game of Thrones bandwagon, too! lol

Great find Ruthie! Thanks so much! Now we may be curious if Rufus would be willing to play that part - again a costume film after ALVH?

It is funny reading the opinions. Everyone takes only some roles as a basis (poor people), so from "I’ve always seen him playing the same character: the annoying jerk"through "I don’t recall ever being displeased with any performance of his"to "it’s a quite good idea. I’ve been a fan of his for over a decade, ever since the brilliant Dark City."And "Rufus Sewell is a good actor, but quite wrong for Stannis imo. Stannis is straightforward, stubborn, bull-headed; Sewell’s range tends more toward the slick, smarmy, and quietly dangerous. He’s got a glint in his eye that always suggests bemusement." ;D Or "a bit lightweight – although I thought he was very good in ‘Zen’ on the BBC recently."To "he has an intense gaze (probably one of the most intense on screen), and I think this role would suit him immeasurably well."One of them mentioned Leopold as the perfect Stannis. Hah! And a strange post: Valorna Posted April 15, 2011 at 10:25 am "sorry but Sewell is already engaged for a new project. "I hope Valorna is Rufus's agent. Although it seems more likely a mistake. - Was it good being in it, Sean? - Hmm, well, yes. - Hmm...

adina, you had the patience to write all those...hm...how to say- opinions... I couldn't bring myself to do that, makes me only very angry. Hope the industry people are better informed and with opinions that are based on reality. Thanks for expressing what I wanted to say but didn't. I only read 3 or 4 post under that article, no more patience for stupidity from me. And I have to admit- Game of Thrones is not my thing, I do not know anything about it and honestly- don't care much about it. But if there is a serious role in it for Rufus I am all in. I will even watch and read everything related to the story. Not that I am old-fashioned or closed for different ideas, I am very much open-minded I think and eat all kinds of films, but am fed up these past few years with CG films with some freaky out-of-space themes and explorations. I live on this Earth and prefer to be excited by Earth-y things...The baseline is: for me anyway- my only motivation to support Game of Thrones is and will be Rufus if he is going to be part of it. Otherwise, I'll pass.

Sewell’s range tends more toward the slick, smarmy, and quietly dangerous. I recommend watching him in TPOTE or T&I. Lightweight? Oh please I haven't watched Game of Thrones so far nor read the books (which I've wanted to do for ages), but what I have heard about both so far sounded quite interesting.

unlike us, some people simply speak without base knowledge and much thinking- "lightweight"- I wish that person to be stared down by Rufus, than lets see how lightweight he will find the man.

Unfortunately you cannot stop people from speaking their mind ( or whatever passes for it). And often people who have stron oppinions always speak first. But as someone pointed out, it is up to the makers of film to take the chance. I believe that eventually they will the evidence continues to mount in his favor. I absolutely cannot wait for Zen on PBS. I have my dvr ready to go.
