I don't visit the Rooftop for a few days and this happens! Yeah!! Thank you Rai for getting this information out of Rufus and conveying it to us fans! Now we can look forward to seeing him in something new, apart from Hotel Noir, The Sea, and Paradise Lost possibly! Plus great that he will be filming in UK. I don't care who the actor is I am so excited with the news! Although I would like him to work with Clive Owen! So nice to hear that he had a nice summer with Billy and that he is happy and content! Thanks again Rai! Love Robela!

It would be wonderful if it was Daniel Day Lewis. But all british actors are wonderful. So looking forward to finding out. Thank you Rai.

Okay now I have learned almost every british actor i never knew before. I am just thrilled he is in movie that is contemporary and I believe will be in vogue.
But it does look like he is incredibly busy so perhaps even if the biggies have not decided to give a second look, there are others in the market that understand his value and that is wonderful.

For me it would be great if it was Alan Rickman Stama, how perfect would that be. I can't quite figure out rickman's allure, because normally I don't give blonde men a second look. He got to me in Sense and Sensibility, but he's no roof. as if anyone else comes close. would you prefer to see him as a roof buddy or a roof enemy?

Basically, I don´t care but it would be nice if they could be opponents and their characters were not only black and white, if you understand me. Both of them know how to give each of their characters life and that makes them the masters.

Anglophile, have you ever seen one of the Harry Potter movies? Alan Rickman plays Severus Snape, HP's opponent in the school's staff with the long black and greasy hair! i was very much surprised to find out that in real life he is blonde! I think he is a good actor, and together with Rufus - buddy or enemy - it would be a treat. But as you say, he's no Roof....

Oh, good idea, Martina, I'd love to see Rickman paired with Rufus! He's another one of those actors who can play everything, giving any character depth and credibility.

I was beginning to wonder the same thing, Stama but you said it before I did ;D You can't get much better than Rickman! Anglophile, you MUST see Harry Potter if you can. Rickman as Snape was my first huge Hollywood crush (closely followed by Jason Isaacs, then Kenneth Branagh. Imagine my young teenage joy when Chamber of Secrets came out and ALL THREE OF THEM were in it! ) To be honest, I think Snape is probably one of the best characters in literature today. He's definitely one of the most memorable. Rickman got me in Sense and Sensibility too. That will forever be one of my absolute favourite films and favourite books. I adore Colonel Brandon and I would choose him any day over Mr. Darcy! I was also thinking maybe Jeremy Irons or Jason Isaacs or <gasp> Robbie Coltrane! Hmmm....this is fun ;D I wish we had an idea of age-range but I don't want to be greedy for info I'm hoping it's Anthony Hopkins. Wouldn't that be awesome for him!

I saw Alan Rickman in a film called Closetland that was very interesting. The cast is himself, and Madeline Stowe, and that's it. It's hard to describe, but he plays a sadistic interrogator, and she's blindfolded, so he does things to her, and then leaves the room and comes back, pretends to be someone else....basically he plays good cop/bad cop all by himself.
I also really liked Truly, Madly, Deeply....and I have a soft spot for Love, Actually but I'm not sure why (not usually my type of film)

OK, since so many of us are rickman fans and hard-core roof enthusiasts of the first order, there must be something that connects these two in our psyches. any ideas about what, ladies? i'm trying to decide if it's roles they've played that got to me or if it's something entirely personal. i have to lean toward the former because I don't know either of them, of course, and the more i watch roof on film, the more I realize it's easy to assign him personal characteristics based on those characters and not on him at all. the only hint I see of the real person he is, is his own contention that he is much closer to dear petruchio than other characters he has played.
but i can't find a lot of rickman's sense and sensability in any of roof's work i've watched so far. will definitely have to fit harry potter into my schedule now. i may have to retire and devote myself to film analysis and controlled lust entirely.
and then, there's hopkins, as you say. what is it about british men?

With Rickman, I think so much of his appeal is his voice. Rumantic, it's funny, I was also going to recommend "Truly, Madly, Deeply" if Meg hadn't seen it. It's one of my favorites (bring a hankie). Closetland sounds interesting (if a bit disturbing). what is it about british men? Well, there's the accent... ;D But really I think that US fans admire British actors (male and female) so much because they are talented. They usually get where they are because they're good, not because they're pretty or willing to make idiots of themselves (reality "stars"). Sometimes British actors are pretty also, and that's nice, but mostly, they are just good at what they do. Back on topic, I am waiting impatiently to see some sort of Variety or imdb announcement of whatever Rufus's latest project will be.

Oh. Yes. The accent. I adore Rufus as Jacob Hood, but when he speaks with his own British accent, he's about twice as sexy That goes for many other Brits as well, even if they can't quite hold a candle to our favourite man. As I said, I think both Rufus and Rickman have incredible talent for making whatever character they are playing feel so real and believable and multidimensional.

What connects Rickman and Rufus is the amazing range of roles each is willing to take on - they both resisit type-casting. Funny, but I hadn't really thought ofi it before, but AlanRickman is probably the only other actor other than Rufus whose films I have sought out solelly because he is in them.
And yes - if you've not seen Truly, Madly, Deeply run out and see it pronto. Fabulous movie!
Rue - what can I say - our opinions are so close, we must have been separated at birth! Bottom line for me as to why Brit are better - they have actors, we have "movie stars." Here - if you're on TV - that's it for you! If you're in movies, no theater for you! There are some rare expceptions, but think of how many times you've read of an American actor "breaking out" of TV to become a movie star. And how few of them (once they make it big in the movies) go back to TV. Whereas in England, you're just as likely to see a actor in a TV show as a movie as a play. They go for the roles and damn the medium.
