I guess 'Oh, my GOD' is the right thing to say ;D (Why do vicars never look like that in my neck of the woods?) Thanks so much for finding and posting this, sgev. And welcome on board, by the way! And here's how the book describes Mr. Duchemin (I think Rufus fits this quite well!): It flashed through [Macmaster's] mind, too, that it was extraordinary that anyone so ecstatically handsome as Mrs. Duchemin's husband should not have earned high preferment in a church always hungry for male beauty. Mr. Duchemin was very tall, with a slight stoop of the proper clerical type. His face was of alabaster; his grey hair parted in the middle fell brilliantly on his high brows; his glance was quick, penetrating, austere; his nose very hooked and chiselled. He was the exact man to adorn a lofty and gorgeous fane (...) I think that the make-up kind of got this right judging by the picture, but I do think he looks quite creepy and not as handsome as he should be (and as Rufus is!).

Thanks for the larger version of the picture, Nell! Lead us not into temptation...; Yes, probably. (Didn't we discuss Rufus as an occasion of sin before? In my salad days we had a name for priests who looked like Rufus - Father What-a-waste. sigh, talk about leading one into temptation. I would hang on every word of his sermon. Not that I would remember a word of it! LOL! Yes, Rufus is definitely an occasion of sin. We had a priest known as Father What-a-waste too! I wonder if it was the same guy, traveling the country, disappointing women. ;D I agree with Anniem, they have managed to make Rufus's character look kind of pale and off somehow, but I'm sure it's the perfect look for the role!

Thinking about it, I've realized that I encountered one specimen of the What-a-waste variety once when I was still an altar girl - I was so impressed by his looks that I actually forgot the words of the Lord's Prayer I wouldn't say Duchemin-Rufus is looking creepy but he has a slightly mad touch (which his character is actually supposed to have).

It's awful but true - good looking priests tend to end up with higher female attendances at mass! I remember when, many years ago, when I was still a church-goer, we had a young Maltese priest by the name of Father Tong. And all the female neighbourhood started to remember they ought to go to mass .... Father Tong was tall, had curly golden hair (I kid you not), and startling turquoise eyes! (And Im talking Catholic i.e. celibate! )

Thanks to sgev for the pic and Nell for the bigger version! Rufus's face does look a little "off" there, especially around the mouth - Benedict is wearing face "plumpers" (I kid you not) so maybe they had Rufus wear something like that, too. Oooooh, I can't wait for next Friday now!!

T LOL! Yes, Rufus is definitely an occasion of sin. ! As a struggling to practice Catholic, my answer is to quote St Augustine, "Lord, make me chaste, but not yet."

I like the comment in Radio Times: (There are) comic set pieces, (a breakfast party at which a cuckoo vicar, played by Rufus Sewell holds forth on sex in Latin)......... Sounds good

Short quote from today's Daily Mail Weekend magazine: 'Reverend Duchemin (Rufus Sewell) An eccentric vicar and contributor to Macmaster's book on poetry, he embarrasses his wife Edith by peppering the conversation with sexual comments'. Oh I so can't wait for this...xx My only fear is that we will not see enough of our man....

Judging from the book, it is a very small role But I can see exactly why Rufus called it "delicious". This is going to be one memorable cameo!

It is a cameo. I bet he will get rave reviews for it which may help him get considered for a comedy or other lighter roles. Sounds like what he has done here people have enjoyed.
