Yeah, it would be great to see him in something with Clive Owen! ...I sometimes wonder what it would have been like if Rufus had been cast in Wire in the Blood. Not that Robson Green is a slouch or anything. It's just that I play 'Recast the Film' a lot. Maybe I'll start a Games thread . Pen

He wanted the role of Inspector Uhl in The Illusionist - here is a character for him with much more depth. A Charles Todd fictional series beginning with A Test of Wills, in 1919 England - Scotland Yard Inspector Ian Rutledge suffering from shell-shock and tormented by the voice of a Scots soldier he executed for refusing to fight. I actually pulled the book to read again - I haven't read it for a number of years but thought about it yesterday evening. He could do alot with this role. It is a totally different role from anything he has done before - as far as I know.

I don't know the character but such a role sounds spot-on for Rufus. The stories that have been in the news about the S.A.D.s recently have moved me to tears and I often wonder about those who sanctioned and carried out these atrocities. Bad enough to have enemy blood on your hands but how the hell would you deal with the torment of killing (for that's what it was regardless of any other term used) one of your own?

Hmmm, I just mentioned in Recast the Film that Katurian in THE PILLOWMAN would be a good part for El Roof if they made a film of it.

Only as a starring character (from now on!), how about films with Emma Thompson, Helen Mirren and Dame Judi Dench? Imagine that kind of talent on screen together!

This list of things I'd like to see Rufus do.........I mention other films, but it's not that I want Ruf to do THAT film or even one exactly like it.......just that I'd like to see him do that sort of character in some way............so here goes: A ship's captain, ala Crowe in Master and Commander A soldier in WWII, ala Jude Law in Enemy at the Gates or Tom Hanks in Saving Private Ryan A colonial, ala Mel Gibson in The Patriot A detective, ala anything Law & Order Forensic detective, ala CSI
Moving on.......I would love to see him with Emma Thompson or Judi Dench! I think Rufus in the Will Farrell part of Stranger Than Fiction would have been very interesting.........because I can't picture him in that kind of part!

I already put this tohe Games recast section:
I would love to see Rufus as Brick (the Paul Newman role) in the "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" - ok, he's not southern or even american, but surely he could manage that .

Since they are remaking BUNNY LAKE IS MISSING with Reese Witherspoon and it is set in England (let's hope it is still set in England, that is), perhaps there's a part in there for the Roof. If it was good enough for Laurence Olivier, it must be good enough for the Roof, right? Ok, Larry was 60ish when he did this... It sounds like another 'kid goes missing, mother must be nuts but oh no, she's being sabotaged' film though. However, the writer is good.

I'm back on BUNNY LAKE IS MISSING. It is set in England after all, Reese Witherspoon is attached to star (Joe Carnahan is directing) and the good guy police inspector Newhouse who was played by Laurence Olivier in the original is now:
Late-30's, sharp, sensible, the endless toil of police work not yet exacting its full toll on him.
C'mon Roof!!

I think Reese Witherspoon is a much better actress than most of his female leads excepting Shirley Henderson.
When Ruf was reading Dr. Syn, I found a 1937 VHS tape starring George Arliss. Of course a much older character which he could easily portray, it was clever and enjoyable. I was wondering if the radio broadcast might entice someone to remake that film.
Regarding the recast a film game, how about Rufus as Vinny in "My Cousin Vinny"? I would love to see him in something with Marissa Tomei. It is contemporary, comedy and soooo not him!

Arghh!!
"Matthew Rhys will be starring as Dylan Thomas in The Best Time of Our Lives, which begins filming on location in Wales in May. It's "a movie about Welsh poet Dylan Thomas and the love triangle that developed between his wife and his wife’s best friend." It also co-stars Cillian Murphy, serial blackberry abuser Lindsay Lohan, and Keira Knightley, in a script written by Knightley's mother, Sharman Macdonald."
Alright, Rufus too old??
