What TV Series would you like to see Rufus guest-star on, if you could?
I recently started watching Dexter on netflix, and couldn't help but imagine Rufus on it - probably because one of the characters on Season 1 has dark curly hair, and I thought, Rufus could've had that part!

In the Ushers thread, Rufluvr said: I brought this over from the other thread because the other day I was thinking about "The Illusionist" and the interview where they mention that Rufus wanted to play Inspector Uhl and the (short-sighted) director told him, "Uhl is the Claude Raines type. You're more the leading man type." I think almost all remakes of classic films are mistakes. If the film was done right the first time, there's usually nothing new to add (a shot-by-shot remake of Psycho? Why bother?). The actors are in a no-win situation, because they'll usually suffer by comparison--most of today's actors don't have the perceived gravitas of the old stars. That may just be a result of the way stars' personal lives were protected in the past, or our instinct to paint the past in a rosy glow, but it is still a factor in our perceptions. I mean, I loved Bernie Mac unreservedly, but I knew Spencer Tracy, and Bernie, you're no Spencer Tracy (Guess Who). Don't even get me started on Ashton Kutcher as Sidney Poitier. "Marky Mark" Wahlberg and Thandie Newton as Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn, respectively (The Truth About Charlie, remake of Charade)? COME ON!!! So, after that long diatribe, I'll say that I was thinking about another "must not touch film," Casablanca. And Rufus is the only actor I can think of who could play any one of the three male leads in a remake. He probably could do Victor (Paul Henreid) in his sleep--noble, passionate, patrician: Lord Marke (Tristan + Isolde), Marco (Dangerous Beauty). He could do a marvelously wounded Rick (Bogart)--jaded, cynical, hardened, but ultimately heroic: Mick Carpenter (In a Savage Land). And he definitely would make a fun and intelligent Louie (Raines): witty, acerbic, cannily subservient to those in power, and seemingly shallow but with hidden depths just waiting to be plumbed*: Frank (Martha Meet...) with a smidge of a less psychotic Martin (Victory). Not that he would ever repeat his previous characterizations, but it shows that he is capable of pulling all the aforementioned traits out of his seemingly bottomless box of acting gifts. Not a Claude Raines type, indeed. Hollywood fools! The problem is, however, even with Rufus playing all three roles (that's a "3D" movie I'd like to see Roof in!), who would we get for Ilsa? *I volunteer to be plumber. PS I forgot to say, he'd be such a sexy von Trapp that ALL the nuns would be volunteering to teach those bratty kids. ;D

LOL!!! great answer Rue... I agree, Rufus is the ONLY actor that could be in a remake of Casablanca. So yeah- he would have to play all three roles. I'm liking the idea.

Heathcliff...I know, if it was to be it would have been done in his younger days and I know I have said it before but he would have been perfect These days, Mr. Rochester would be lovely as a period role. I'll take whatever Rufus throws at me because I can't think of anything else!

Many years ago there was a really good movie called Witness for the Prosecution, you can look it up on IMDB. I think it starred Tyrone Power and the wonderful Charles Laughton (what a fabulous actor he was). Power plays a not so nice character, downright oily and smarmy. He is not a likeable person, but I think he would be really good in it. It's definitely a role that would go against what everyone thinks he should be doing, and the story wouldn't need much updating either. It's worth renting it's an oldie bur a goodie.

I can't think what Vampire movie remake he could star in...but it struck me as odd that he was never cast in one previously. (I bet in the 80's-90's he was strongly considered for some) Rufus definitely has the right looks and can well evoke the dark-yet classy smoldering sensuality one tends to connect with a count from Transylvania. And no, I haven't seen "Twilight". Yet.

Rueful--Yes, Rufus would make a wonderful Rick in Casablanca. He's great at those men of the world roles, isn't he? Because he has the natural intelligence to pull it off, make it believable. (That's why they commonly cast him as fairly intelligent Kings)
And about those nuns not being immune to a Rufus Captain: "Vows? What Vows?" (even God wouldn't hold it against them)

rufluvr, he was considered for the role of Lestat in Interview with the Vampire...that role unfortunately was butchered by none other than that wonderful one dimensional stone faced rat like actor...better known as Tom Cruise.....

Only problem is, none of the damsels in distress would be fleeing! Instead, they'd be chasing the vampire hunters away with pitchforks. Witness for the Prosecution is a really good movie, peach. Great choice for Rufus!
