Hmmm. Well, I hate to sound like miss know-it-all, please pardon me. It is called "Vo- doo"- not sure of the spelling. Pronounced Voh-doo. Not to be awkward, Vittoria, but the shop itself spelled it "voodoo", and I never once heard it referred to as "vo-doo" in all the times I went there, even by the locals, so..... And yet I didn't get a sense of that - a feeling of doom and a sense of foreboding, definitely, but not a sense of any entity, as such, actually making me leave. Oh, I'm not disputing that. That is clear wherever you go, as you are aware. Small shrines are visible in many shops there, tucked in a corner or in an alcove. I think what made me fall in love with the place was its spirituality. And the music. And the food. Why would that creep me out? If they were , I'm glad they saw fit to remove me. On the other hand, I might be a little upset if they were positive entities and didn't want me around! ;D Thanks for your insights, Vittoria.

The Priestess and others I knew in their religion called it Vo-Doo. Is it possible that there is a public side to it and a more private one? Tourists would assume it is voodoo, so that would be a selling point for shops. So, you didn't sense any entity? Do you normally sense entities when they are there? Are you able to tell the difference between one type of energy and another as well as how they are communicating their wishes? Quite often, entities may simply give a person an impression rather than a sense of being pushed or pulled. The person on the receiving end may not even know what is really going on. I ask these questions because I don't know how sensitive you are- not trying to be insulting in any way.

The locals we got chatting to referred to it as Santeria as well. No offence taken! I assume I must be sensitive, in the sense you are talking about, to a certain degree to have experienced those feelings on that day. I have certainly been in medieval ruins in my home city and have felt a sense of energy being attached to that place, whereas just outside the building I have felt nothing. These days I'm an atheist, so I'm inclined to think it came down to my own sense of the history of a place and what has gone before. That's not to say I don't believe in energies, mind.

I've never been to New Orleans but I have been to Savannah, GA which is another voodoo hotspot in the south. That city, especially the historic district, is alive with entities and spirits. My cousin and I went on a ghost walk one evening and we entered a graveyard that was built around colonial times. The temperature felt like it dropped about 10 to 15 degrees as soon as we walked in. There's an apartment complex there that has no one living in it because of the paranormal activity that occurs there--screams, doors slamming, beds lifting off the floor. It was once the old jail and it looks out over where the gallows used to be so prisoners who were sentenced to death were forced to look out the window everyday and see their place of execution. I once considered moving to Savannah but decided I wouldn't be able to take the heat and humidity there.

Sorry to hear you're having such a hard time, DGD.
I just woke up. Please someone send me some toothpicks so I can do the Fred Flinstone thing with my eyelids! I have to go to the doctor's office today and it's quite a distance. Because of the distance (and wanting to wheel around in the mall where the office is at) combined with never knowing what the weather is really going to be like, I have to take Handi-Dart transit for wheelchairs etc. This means waiting around for Handi-Dart each way and waiting in the doc's office if he's running late... I have a bloody long afternoon coming.
Coffee... coffeeeeeeee!

GEII: So, you're on the Atheist bandwagon too eh? As am I. In my case, I believe that God is there. I just don't particularly like Him. So, the "A" in Atheist to me means "against" rather than not believing in anything. It's cool that you are open to energy even though you're an Atheist. Have you ever looked into Spiritual Humanism?
Ambra: Sounds like some freaky places! I was thinking about posting in the Spooky happeningas thread, but there have been too many incidents in life to list! One example is that not long after I moved into this apartment, I was sitting at one end of the apartment, while the stove fan in the kitchen started up by itself. Ah.. such is my life.

Vittoria - oh, please don't call it a bandwagon! That makes it sound like a "statement". I never have, and never will, taken on board anything because it's "the thing to do". That's just not me. It's a personal choice, but it's not driven by it being cool not to believe.
DGD - things must have got really bad for you! So sorry to hear that. Good luck in whatever you do.

I too am like you Vittoria I believe in a God, but am not a true believer, I consider myself an Agnostic, I stopped truly believing when I was around 8 or so, bad experience with those nuns. Long story. I find solace in spirituality and pray in my own way on my own terms and am comfortable in that decision. I'm also open to just about anything, that is everything but scientology. That I'm afraid is where I draw the line.

yeah aliens and crazy Tom Cruise kinda negates that one for me. I consider myself a Christian but I detest organized religion....i don't think i need a structure to make me feel close to God.
I just like praying in my own way.

It's a personal choice, but it's not driven by it being cool not to believe. Thanks for clearing that up, GEII. I'm not an Atheist due to it being "cool" either really. I just call anything with a label a bandwagon. Must be the musician in me.... Sorry for the confusion! Peach: Ah yes.. Scientology. I actually tried that for awhile a number of years back. Can't say I was overly impressed either! Anyway... It seems that these days a lot of people are going their own way and steering clear of organized religion. I just got back from the doctor's office before this online session. I did have to wait outside in the cold for a long time and the Handi-Dart was late on the way there, so I was a bit late for my appointment- man, I hate that. I like to be early. Anyway, medically, everything is cool. So, that is good news and I have lost a little weight too- not as much as I wish I had, but some is better than none and I am noticing that I'm firming up more so the fat/muscle ratio is likely changing. Yay! It's probably due to the Yoga and dancing around my kitchen. Well, I'm not huge anyway, according to my best friend, and she is not the type to just flatter me.

just a thought, scientology, completely off topic, and a little curious, a question, how come cruies's kid never smiles??? I mean never, notice it next time they plaster her face all over the glossies. Is it in their religion that children of scientologists aren't supposed to smile? Just wondering, I find it a little more than strange and off putting.
