What movies have you all seen recently that you really enjoyed? Hubby and I saw "The Prestige" and "The Departed" last week and really liked them both! Some people are comparing Prestige to Illusionist and there certainly are common things about them, mostly the magic/illusion in the films. But they were very different too.
Illusionist is more of a love story and Presitge is more of a mystery, in my opinion. Both have twists and turns that have you wondering what is real and what isn't.
The Departed is a straight on Scorsese film! Very brutal, very real, very............well, Scorsese! DiCaprio and Damon both do a great job, but DiCaprio is amazing! I'm not a Nicholson fan, but he even did a credible job in this film. You aren't really sure who is on what side until the very end. And, of course, there has to be a bloodbath, because that's what Scorsese does.......but when you realize the whole story, you're a bit surprised, or at least I was.
Anyone else seen any good movies lately? Or what films are you really wanting to see?

Ok, we went to see "Stranger Than Fiction" tonight, and, as Uke said, it is slow going, but I didn't find it boring at all. We all three liked it, which surprised me..........my 15 year old daughter loves sci-fi and scary films and hubby likes action and sci-fi.........but both of them really enjoyed this one. It was good to see Will Farrell NOT act so goofy!

Last picture I saw was Women Talking Dirty. Interesting little picture made unique only by the fact that... well it wasn't unique, actually. Lovely views of Edinburgh. Lovely views of James Purefoy. Helena Bonham Carter doing what she does best when she isn't gliding around in a long dress.
At the theatre... hum, something recent too. You can see what sort of great impression it left on me. Ah! I know. The Prestige. I liked the Illusionist better and the only thing I really liked in that was Rufus.

I just came back from "A Good Year" and although Russell Crowe still isn't my cup of tea, Tom Hollander absolutely is. Tom, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways, luv!! I should add that Tommy is my Plan B should Plan A fail so don't mind me if I prattle on about him. They allowed him to be cute in AGY so there's the two thumbs up from me.

It was a little funny, thought there were A LOT of crude persuasive humor (which I was expecting), so if you're sensitive to insults DON'T SEE IT. There's also a good 15 straight minutes of male nudity (believe me, Borat's body is not something you want to see, or his assistant). Shiver. The horror!!! I had to put my sweatshirt over my face.

The Departed is still my favorite so far. I saw The Queen & found it haunted me, & made me want to see it again. Good sign in my book. I saw Borat with my son this weekend & I am embarrassed to say I laughed my a...s off. I don't think there was a group that wasn't up for grabs.

I saw BOBBY yesterday and thought it was quite good. Not all good (Ashton Kutcher anyone?) but overall it worked. I must say, well done to Emilio Estevez for having written and directed it.

It's not playing in any theaters nearby my college. I have to wait until my break to see it. Hopefully it's playing in a theater nearby home. *praying*

Saw Telladaga on the plane, so it probably will be released in a couple of weeks on dvd, since that is the way it seems to work. Try to see The Queen if you can.

We saw "Deck the Halls" yesterday........not my choice, it was my daughers' choice! I went in expecting to hate it, thinking it looked just beyond stupid........but it was really cute and quite funny! I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would! It's SO much better than Santa Clause 3!
