WOOHOOOO, I didn't know Michael Sheen and Frost/Nixon were confirmed for Broadway but woooohooo, it's coming! www.playbill.com/news/article/103288.htmlI am OVER THE ******* MOON!! This is the one play I missed this year that I really regretted and now I won't have to. I'll be there on the first night, baby. Woohoo. Ok, uhm, I recommend Wilde, Heartlands, Dirty Filthy Love (with Shirley Henderson) and Fantabulosa. He's renowned for his stagecraft, I hear his Caligula was mindblowing.

I forgot to mention one of the other major Michael Sheen attractions: he looks like a pixie. What is not to love?

Saw Apocolypto and The Fountain. Apocolypto was okay but I was lost all through The Fountain. I couldn't make any sense of at all. Hugh Jackman was bald for some of it and he sure has a funny looking pointy head.

So you didn't find Apocolypto gross and disgusting?
All my friends that have seen the fountain said the same thing........it was too hard to follow and got boring because of that!

A little gross yes but I didn't think it was disgusting. I was rather bored with it for the first half but the second half was watchable. I thought The Departed was much more gross and disgusting - but what a movie!!

I'm a bit upset that Sacha Barron Cohen is nominated for Best Actor for Borat for the Golden Globes. They could have had a much better actor *coughrufuscough* than him.
Just saw THE HOLIDAY for the second time.

I saw STARTER FOR TEN yesterday which I loved to death. Alice Eve plays a girl called Alice who tells Brian (James McAvoy) that among all her former boyfriends there was 'Rufus' who she had a nine-month affair with. "You know, Rufus - the performance artist who set himself on fire..."Heh heh, sounds like a Rufus S. thing to do. I can't believe they made this before she met Rufus

Last week my daughters and I saw "The Queen" and absolutely loved it! I hadn't seen that much of Michael Sheen and he was good, although he isn't "hot and gorgeous" along with being talented as Rufus is!!! LOL
We also saw "The Holiday" and "A Night At the Museum" and enjoyed both. ANatM is a typical Ben Stiller film......funny, but silly at times. And I've already given my review of Holiday in another thread!

I dragged DH off to see Casino Royale today but they sold out of tickets about 10 people ahead of us in the queue so we saw The Queen instead. I am really glad we did!!! DH appreciated the fact that people werent being shot every 5 seconds and there was no violence. Not sure that I will ever get him to see CR now! Helen Mirren is so talented and I actually quite appreciated Michael Sheen too.

Children of Men-flawed but interesting. Worth a watch for reasons other than Clive Owen. Probably nothing like what you expect. The battle scenes are chilling and it's not terribly "scifi" heavy if you aren't into it.
Not an acting tour de force and if you're going because you're a Julianne Moore fan you might want to skip it. Michael Caine is pretty damn amusing. Not a feel good ending so beware.

I just saw Pan's Labyrinth over the weekend & it probably is one of the best movies I have ever seen. It is a gem that weaves 2 overlapping stories together so ingeniously & so tightly that you come away feeling it is perfection. The man who plays the inexcusably evil stepfather to the little girl, plays it so well that his evilness permeates every aspect of the movie. You can't avoid being enveloped in the emotions of the characters, & the feelings of entrapment that they bring. It is subtitled, & it has a fantasy aspect that may not be to everyone's liking, but it is one you should not miss.
So my picks for best pictures so far for 2006 are The Departed, The Queen, & Pan's Labyrinth.
