In the last week I've seen Casino Royale and The Fountain. I'm just as glad Rufus isn't Bond now as I was when he didn't get to be Bond. Daniel Craig is a terrific Bond. He can act and he's physically well developed for it. I'm a Sean Connery as Bond fan but I think Craig is the best Bond since Connery. The picture is too long (but I've read the book and I knew it wasn't over at the various points where it seemed like it should have been) and at times gets just a small bit caught up in itself. But all in all I'd recommend it to anyone who really likes Bond.
On to The Fountain. Rufus desperately needs to make a picture with Rachel Weisz. She's a terrific actor and like Rufus very emotional and empathetic. I've always liked her but in this picture she gave the performance for the Academy Award that she got last year. All in all the film was satisfactory. Hugh Jackman can act. I've seen him do it. But in this film he swings from tragic weeping to fits of rage. I would have liked to see the gray ranges inbetween. I'm not really one to see a film and second guess how it should have been cast, but I couldn't help wondering what sort of picture it might have been if Rufus had been in the role instead.
Are you listening Darren Aranofsky? Next film that Brad Pitt backs out of, think Rufus Sewell...

Last week I saw Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont and A Good Year.
Mrs P was a bitter sweet little story which started slow, just like the venerable age of the heroine. I enjoyed the development of the relationship between Mrs P and Ludovic, the impoverished writer played nicely by the ex Mr Wickham, Rupert Friend who showed that he has nice potential as an actor. Definitely a two tissue job. My DH, who hasnt been to the movies for a hundred years actually quite enjoyed it too and that is saying quite a lot!
A Good Year was Russell Crowe trying to be funny and not really succeeding IMHO. It had a few laughs and was good on that account but as a vehicle to demonstrate Russell's comedic ability - stick to drama, mate. I didnt regret the entry fee but I wont be watching it again.
Casino Royale hasnt made it here yet but I am looking forward to seeing it. The pics I have seen of Daniel Craig make him a bit too old IMO for the "young" Bond but my DS tells me that it is pretty good and I will enjoy seeing it .... roll on mid December!!!!!

I saw Children of Men tonight and was very disappointed. Dark and depressing, dull and dismal. It is the worst Clive Owen film I have seen. I don't understand how the reviewers all love it and are calling it the best sci-fi picture of the year. There was no character build up and everyone seemed to just be going through the motions and saying their lines. The only character that was the least bit entertaining was the one played by Michael Caine and he didn't have alot of screentime. I also thought there was alot of uncalled for foul language - there are many words other than the "f" word that can be used to express oneself and it gets old quickly when it's used a couple times in almost every sentence . IMHO of course.
Also saw Casino Royale and absolutely loved it! Best Bond movie in a long time and Daniel Craig was a great choice!

Last film I saw in a theatre was Borat. I have been Ali G fan for a long time and so we went to see it in the very first week.
The film was a wonderful surprise. It was really really funny, as expected, but on top of that it was a whole, beautiful film with an athmosphere different from the Ali G show, Chaplin like "melancholy" or something like that.
I can totally see though why a relatively unknown country isn't that happy about the phenomenon. I even agree, Cohen was a bit thoughtless.

I saw THE QUEEN during my Thanksgiving Break. Though I knew the movie was to be taken place around the time of Princess Diana's death, I didn't expect to be tearing up every time I saw the flowers in front of Buckingham, Kensignton and Balmoral Palace.
It was a very good movie. I have to say, though I know this is a Rufus forum, Michael Sheen is very handsome. He makes a good Tony Blair.

I saw 16 Years of Alcohol--Kevin McKidd. Really interesting film, if not cheery. If you haven't seen it and it's available where you live, rent it. It's also fun to see a youngish KM if you are a fan...

I watched the beginning of this (until Diana's death) and quite liked it but I couldn't watch the rest of it. I just couldn't. I kept wondering how the writers could imagine/make up what everyone was saying in private especially while those people are still alive? While it's a great thing to have for historical value but it's still too close to the actual event for me not to feel very emotional about this sad event. And now I know who Michael Sheen is! thank-you friarpark

Haven't seen either of those films and I have no memory of seeing him........but what a cutie patootie! He's got more curls than our Ruf does.......but Ruf's eyes are much more gorgeous, IMHO!
I need to look this dude up and see if I've ever seen him in anything!

Hehe
He was also in Laws of Attraction, which also starred Pierce Brosnan and Julianne Moore. That was a pretty good movie, entertaining. That's actually the first time I saw him. I didn't see Timeline until my friend let me borrow it (I didn't even know he was in), and when I saw him, I was really happy.
He's a pretty good actor.
I'm going to see Holiday next Friday w/ a friend, I can't wait :-)

I'll probably go by myself during the day before the girls get home from school! When the drool factor is that intense (even for a short time while he's onscreen), it's really better that I be alone!!!!! HAHAHAHA
I've seen "Mary Reilly", "Four Feathers", and "Kingdom of Heaven"........so apparently I've seen this Michael Sheen!!! I also plan on see "Blood Diamond", so I'll try to look for him in that.

I keep wondering about the fascination with Sheen. I know a lot of girls like him. He is a very good actor, & one of the best things about The Queen but looks-wise he is just average in my book. Although he's not bad with the long hair. ;D

Like James McAvoy, Paul Bettany and Tom Hollander.

I recall him distinctly in Underworld and vaguely in a few other roles. So what's your favorite picture Uke, so I can see what you're talking about. I'm thinking about seeing Frost/Nixon on B'way, for Frank of course so I'll look forward to seeing his stagecraft.
