Okay then, let me start. I think my favorite of this lot is the scene in Victory where Ricardo plunges the knife through the guys hand through the bottom of the table. There is just something so creepy about it. After that is the bizarro scene with Ricardo and Alma when he's lurking in her bath. And of course the park scene in Dirty Weekend which is very creepy and gives an idea of the sort of actor Rufus will become. I'm going to have to leave the picking up to the rest of you. To tell you the truth, searching for some of Rufus' best work, I can't find much here. These are all passable pictures, but nothing stellar or elevated by Rufus' presence in them. There are little shots of great potential but nothing, to me anyway, to sustain a scene. Maybe when you all start talking, something will come to me.

Love that scene too, my favourite from Victory. Well, I see this poll as being about a favourite scene, not 'his best work' or anything like that. If you want to pick the bum scene in Gone To Seed, than more power to you. I'll stick with the list I made earlier: Carrington (uhm, bathing suit scene and fight scene I think, will have to rewatch because I can't remember) Cold Comfort Farm (But I don't let no women eat me - I eats them instead. that scene is such a winner.) A Man of No Importance (lunch with Alfie; talking sandwiches and poetry <- that was my Rufus moment!!) Middlemarch (I think the first introduction, Ladislaw sitting at the lake looking incredibly hot) For Twenty One, I'll pick Rufus strung out on the toilet in Patsy's flat. My favourite GTS scenes are actually Jim Broadbent and his ridiculous band Dirty Weekend I haven't seen yet.

Well, I see this poll as being about a favourite scene, not 'his best work' or anything like that. If you want to pick the bum scene in Gone To Seed, than more power to you. well I think it's pretty much always like that. I pick what I think is his best work and everyone else picks the "bum scene" I love the bathing suit scene. There is something so wonderful about his vibrating indignation and the silly costume and how seriously he's taking himself at that very moment that it makes me want to laugh. It just such a lovely contrast to the power that he has today with his anger. As much as I watch this and I really love it, it makes me laugh out loud, I just can't think of anything much to recommend Rufus in it. He looks great in his tuxedo? yup if for no other reason that watching him eat. It's a scene unto itself. um, pretty. Don't you mean pretty? This is another one that's so absurd I just love it. I can't think of anything that really earmarks Rufus in this one either. Have you seen Hot Fuzz yet, uke? It's tremendous. And Broadbent is great in it. best scene in this is definitely the park but most of Rufus' stuff is good in this one. He's rabbity and creepy and weird until the very last second when he looks like innocent lovely baby roof and then she bludgeons him to death with a hammer.

well I think it's pretty much always like that. I pick what I think is his best work and everyone else picks the "bum scene" i must defend myself here maxx! i've just fought the urge to do the equivalent of pick "the bum scene" on the roof's strongest performance thread. wanted to go for TOTS cos its my fave and he is just irresistable, but focussed on what i see as even better acting parts instead! credit where credit's due Have you seen Hot Fuzz yet, uke? It's tremendous. And Broadbent is great in it. don't know about uke, but i loved hot fuzz, unexpectedly. so many spottable actors in it, and loved jim broadbent too! priceless. and not like anything else, even though it borrowed shamelessly from other things. back to baby roof - hmm, will ponder.....

Everyone but you and I will pick the bum scene. (and you were spot on by the way ) did you have a scene for this poll or just causing trouble? ;D

[quote author=maxx02 board=polls thread=1178386412 post=1179084281 did you have a scene for this poll or just causing trouble? ;D[/quote] well, i've only seen 4 from the list (i think i have more catching up to do than anyone else here!) and will have to do a recap before i can suggest a scene, and now the weekend's over its back to work in a few hours! so, at this point, just causing trouble i think

I vote for Middlemarch - the scene where Will is leaving Middlemarch (again) and Dorothea asks him to remember her. His reply is one of my favorite Rufus lines of all time.
Dorothea: Please remember me. Will: As if I were not in danger of forgetting EVERYTHING ELSE!
Rufus is so passionate in that scene. The first time I saw it I was completely "gob-smacked". :-)

I have a difficult time with Middlemarch because I just can't seem to get past how he looks.
I think my favorite scene from an acting stand point is the one where he's talking about his family. He does very well bringing them to life so that I see them when he speaks of them. There is a great love and fondness in his tone and face. It's small and not terribly dramatic but Rufus very much excels at those moments. He fills every second he has which is one of the things that makes him so gifted. Nothing is a throwaway. Everything gets consideration.

Okay, anyone else want to make a suggestion or shall we commence with the voting.
so far we have:
Dirty Weekend: Park Scene Middlemarch: As if I were not in danger of forgetting everything else. Victory: Knife through hand Victory: Bathing scene. A Man of No Importance: Sandwich scene Carrington: Pool scene Carrington: Cross and drunk on the stairs Cold Comfort Farm: The sewing scene. Twenty One: Strung out on the toilet scene (are you sure you don't mean the one in the pub, uke?)
More suggestions?

I'm acutally going to add one if no one minds:
Citizen Locke: The lurking outside the door and being confronted by the captian scene.

So you've left out Gone to Seed completely, then? Can't we have Billy serenading Hilda in the market? Cute scene... And there's another scene in a bar where it looks like Billy might just be a teensy bit guilty at how he's treated her (but I haven't seen it in a while, so I'd have to check whereabouts that is)

I haven't left it out. you're the first person to suggest a scene from it. I'd say yes on the serenade but it's already up on the website as a permenant fixture. So why not pick something else? I don't think it makes much sense to have it more than one place, do you?

Twenty One: Strung out on the toilet scene (are you sure you don't mean the one in the pub, uke?) Nope. It won't win anyway but still.
