Okay, Frannie, explanation, please - how on earth does Tip calling me GE1 instead of GE2 amount to "proof" of supposed naughty posts, huh? HUH???

nonononono i called GE2 GE1, because she is so much our number 1.
(i wonder if i will get away with this one, she says, quietly receding to the corner, gazing at the ceiling...)

Nice try. Sounded very sincere.
Will you share the lovely gratuitous Mick pictures Numbat gave you? Or will I have to beg for some of my own?

Now class, time for another lesson in Frannie-speak. Here is an example of a Frannie sentence, when diagrammed. What's that? No, it's too late. You can't transfer to Sanskrit class.

So I am posting this as a I finally (after how many years?) saw IASL this weekend on YouTube. All I can say is Ru's performance and the director's vision were so in sync, so perfectly subtle, that the ending snuck up on me. I was expecting something totally different, and the unresolved bit of whether Evelyn and Mick do get together as the camera fades to black, was one of the best endings I have seen in a movie in a loooooong time. Ru's performance was so understated you don't realize what a hero he is until almost the end (at least I didn't, but then again, I spent the first 3/4 of the movie drooling over his physique). Made me fall in love with him all over again. As if I'd ever fall out of love. I am now obsessed with this movie, and will likely watch it several times more this week. Being unemployed does certainly have its side benefits, eh?

Yay rugirl!!!
You are right to be obsessed - it's a fantastic movie. I'm sure you know by now that it's my favourite. So romantic and subtle and unexpected and beautiful.
And i love that you thought the ending was a little unexplained. If you want to trawl back through pages and pages and pages of discussion between me and everyone else, that's the angle that i was pushing too.
I so want to write about Mick, but i'm concerned that i won't do him justice. Because the one thing that you never really understand in this movie, is what's going on in Mick's mind. He remains an enigma to the end. And perhaps giving him a story or two or three will spoil that. I don't know.
Anyhow rugirl, i really recommend that you splash out and buy this - youtube doesn't really do it justice!
;D

You are right Numbat, I need to spring for the movie, which is mynext move tomorrow! I did read some of the posts about the ending, and even watched the ending a couple of times since I read the posts beforehand. But I still maintain the ending isn't crystal clear. Which I think was Bill Bennet's intention. As for writing about Mick, I agree he is rather undeciphrable, which drew me more to him as a character. You never really know why he is doing what he does. However if you do take a stab at it, of course I will read it - you have a steadfast fan in me!

Yay, I watched it properly at last (not on youtube like before). Just what I need another movie to obsess about. When I 1st put the disc in I got an error message. I decided to give it a clean before I started throwing things & hey presto it worked ! What a lovely gentle movie, our Rufus giving yet another fab performance. Conveying so much with his mannerisms and expressions yet somehow being so still & calm and not over acting. (Does that even make sense ? LOL) I loved the way Mick didn't try to change Evelyn, just let her follow her heart & then was always there for her. Never forcing his opinions on her. I wasn't keen on the colour cast and I had to zoom the picture as it was wide screen & felt like I was watching through a letter box. I seemed to lose a bit of picture quality - it was from a Canadian library though so maybe has had quite a few viewings already. Another weepy - when he stayed on the island & wouldn't leave. When I thought he was dead and when he turns up with a leg missing at the end. Watching this 2nd time round was easier though. The 1st time I was a sobbing wreck. ( I never used to blub at movies !) Also loved that we got extras with this. The interviews - Rufus looking like he'd drunk far too much coffee - slightly wired ! I think I understand where he's coming from when he likened himself in some aspects to Petruchio. Also reminded me of peoples comments about his chair rocking in the Vinyan interview. I loved Maya's comments on Rufus too - all his leading ladies seem to love him don't they ! We don't seem to get enough extras these days. I've noticed this seems to apply more to blu-ray too. I got Vinyan & Knights Tale in blu-ray you pay more & then they cut the extras. I wonder if being blu-ray uses up more disc space, a bit like HD recordings use 3-4 times more hard drive. Eventually I will have to get the normal disc just to watch the extras. Hubby will think I've flipped bless him ! So girls are the extras worth reinvesting for ?

I enjoy the extras. More of Rufus. I like seeing the making of and behind the scene stuff. But thats me. I did buy the extended version of KT just for the extra Rufus parts...was not disappointed!

I didn't know there was an extended version Kygal. I'll have to look out for this one. What's on the cover ? I know there seem to be several different covers to the DVD - I don't want to end up with another disc without extras.

It has a pic of Heath and girl standing back to back in armor on cover...red background on my copy...but it stated on the top extended cut. Extra Rufus scenes are worth it!
