Would love to have him as a brother, taking care all of the jerks for me......stare 'em down! that's all he has to do.... Lovely thought! Certainly I won't give up, have even placed some search orders on used-film sites and keep scouring the web ...

There is a region 2 DVD - or at least there was, distributed in Spain by Araba Films and titled En Una Tierra Salvaje - so it might be worth searching for it under that title. I had to get mine via ebay. The Araba Films website is here: www.arabafilms.com/distribucion/ and the e-mail address given is araba@arabafilms.com However, it doesn't look to have been updated since 2007, so you might not get anywhere. But copies might still turn up on ebay/Amazon, etc.

Probably Rufusitis will make me do something I have avoided for years: get an eBay account ... I think I once saw a copy of that on German amazon, but it appeared that it was Spanish only

No, it has an English or Spanish soundtrack, with subtitles in both languages.

Yep, that's the one I have (and believe me, my Spanish isn't good enough to have bought it unless there was an English audio track!!).

Falling in love all over again with some one you already love, that's what this one is for me. Sometimes after a movie I'd say "Yep, that's Rufus for you!"; but then there are "Oh not again...." for his brilliant acting. So brilliant, I thought if such Mick person exists?? Really nice review, Sewellme! Mick is developed so quietly over the course of the movie. When he's introduced he seems like he could just be a character type from any 1940s "tropical" movie--rough outsider living with the natives. But Rufus (and credit also to the director) creates a three-dimensional person. I'm glad you finally got to see it on DVD.

It's so hard for us, isn't it? So many wonderful characters, so little time!

My ebayed treasure gave me a little shock when it wouldn't play on my computer, but it worked all right in the DVD player, thank God!
It's a lot more beautiful to watch on a normal screen instead of YT and I enjoyed it a lot all over again ... and cried again at the end (in fact, my heart begins to melt the very moment the hand that I know now is his slips the envelope into the corner of the table *sigh*). I love the mixed emotions flashing on Evelyn's face when she sees him, and his quiet face, so different from the Mick we watched throughout the film. That sad look in his eyes pierces my soul every time, as if he wanted to say "sorry that you have to see me in that state I'm in, but I couldn't help coming to try and meet you again". This image, followed by their tender gestures of reunion and those followed by a flashback on happier, carefree days in the sun, is so touching and heartbreaking, and I still love the open end because it leaves space for dreaming up a fulfilled, good future for them.

That was a really good way of putting it, kissmekate! Now I want to watch it again... Stupid studying stopping me...
It's strange though, when I first watched it I didn't think that much of it. I found it interesting seeing how these people interacted with the native people, and how it changed them all, but I didn't feel hugely interested, for lack of a better word, in the more emotional side. It was an hour or two after watching it that I realised I was still thinking about it, and how Mick came to find her and how he changed throughout the film. From there it really grew on me from there, so that now Mick's become a favourite with Charles and Petrucchio. For me it was definitely one of those films that stays with you a long time after, so that each time I watch it, I think I'll get more out of it every time.

Thank you KMK and Rousse for those reviews on IASL. I have been searching for a copy but with no luck. The Spanish one doesn't seem to be available and there is nothing on Ebay or Amazon available at present. If anyone knows where I might get a copy I would be grateful. I so want to see this movie.
