There is a photo with Rufus playing the piano. Could somebody please tell me where it is from? Does he actually know how to play the piano? Thanks!

I don't know why, but it reminds me Cold Comfort Farm. Perhaps it's wrong, some of our experts can answer better.

Yes, he does play the piano. I'm not sure where the photo was taken, but it's in a book of photos by Lord Snowdon, Antony Armstrong Jones, called Snowdon on Stage. It's a terrific book, filled with lovely photos of actors and actresses over the years. The photo of Rufus may be at Soho House in London. I was there with him one night at closing time and he started to play a piano that looked like that. Too bad we got kicked out. He told me Tom Jones sang along with him there one night. A Welshman's dream! Rai

Sharman, in answer to your question, I know at one time he played the drums, but he himself has said that he was not very good. I In fact I think the quote was that he played them like a proficient thirteen-year-old. An in answer to your question he did play some piano. I think I remember reading that some time ago in a New Yorker article.

oh! rai. such a well of info! i did not know he played the piano. the perfect renaissance man. tell me, is he really as nice as he seems to be as a person? He is a prince among men. Such a nice guy and so unaffected. I can't say enough about him in that regard. Anyone who's had any encounter with him, stage door or otherwise, will support that statement. What you see is what he is. Rai

Rai, I couldn't agree more. When I saw him in R&R he was overwhelmed by adoring fans, my sister and myself included. I usually hate to bother any performer for an autograph but we my sister spoke to him and he took the time to repsond, and with a smile, and he did that with all who waited to catch a glimpse of him . He is unlike any actor I have ever seen, wonderfully talented not affected by his fame. Something so rare these days.

as an artist, i can certainly admire the fact that his art always seems to be above any "celebrity" concerns. i have so often been disappointed by talented movie people who get to "the top" - whatever that is - and just burst into flame. suddenly all real passion for their work disappears. somehow i get the feeling that, now at over 40, rufus will never go that route. imagine what an actor he will be, 10, 20 years from now. and it would be so easy for him to cash on his looks alone, as so many have done. no, really, he deserves all the artistic merit he can get. his choices are far from evident, and he did not make the wrongs ones very often, apparently. it is not easy, as an artist, not to give in. after all, when you have something to show, you want to put out... and its very easy to sell your soul. its refreshing to see someone who refuses stubbornly, and systematically, to do that.

What lovely answers. Ladies, you've really made my day!!! What a nice story about him playing and singing with Tom Jones. Thanks so much for this, Rai! And, of course, I've just ordered the book!

He is a lovely man, inside and out. I waited in the rain for him in between performances of R&R - I was just about to give up when he came along the alleyway next to the Duke of York's theatre. When I asked if he would mind signing my copy of the play text, his immediate response was "You've waited out in the rain for me - of course I can!" Not many people would so willingly and graciously give the time to their fans that he does. Love him! Love that pic, too!

but you know, GE2, this is just the thing that a decent human being would say. the more i know about him as an actor, the more i want to see. the more i know about him as a person, the more confident i am that his career will never disappoint.

GE2, I too was lucky enuf to see him in R&R, its a gruelling play, almost three hours in length, and a demanding role as well. I too waited in the freezing cold, along with many other adoring fans, all just wanting to thank him for a wonderful performance. He took the time to speak with all and sign several programmes, mine included. The only time I saw him look annoyed was when a man with a camera and several pieces of memorabilia stop him and had him pose for several pics, I think he knew that would probably end up on EBAY or something, yet it was just a flash of disdain, and in an instant it was gone, still he managed to placate the guy. Then he just walked off into the night. He is a most gracious person and it shows in everything he's done.
We are lucky he's around, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of him in theatre and film.

There are only a few celebrities that I have heard of being like that...I met Lisa Lampanelli after one of her shows in Portland, she stayed after the show until everyone had a autograph and a picture that wanted one, she even called me a name when I asked her too...I was so on cloud nine after she insulted me...it was freakin awesome! I heard Garth Brooks and Jason Isaacs are real sweeties too.
