I got my new copy of "Illuminata" today. Definitely worth the wait, so much better than the butchered version I had previously.
I got a bit of a surprise at work today. We have uptraining every week which is a combination of power point and sometimes computer-based courses and/or videos. The advanced tech team had a video today that we had to watch from our desks which included shots from the various call centers. It's almost at the end and to my shock, there I was in this video that all advanced tech people in all the call centers are going to be watching! I didn't even realize anyone had filmed me! It was a profile view and I'm obviously discussing something with a customer because, animated talker that I am, I'm nodding and moving my hands. I have to say, it freaked me out a little that someone had filmed me and I didn't even notice. Plus, I'm a bit self-concious when it comes to photos and videos of myself. I ended up taking some good-natured ribbing from my collegues afterwards!

I'm glad it arrived, ambra. I'm still waiting for my In a Savage Land, but that which does not kill us makes us stronger. That is creepy! You'll have to be on your best behavior now, in case they bring out the cameras again

Yeah I noticed that too. I would find someone who has a copy and beg them to send you a copy of it....I used to have to do that with Jason Isaacs and Bruce Boxleitner movies...such is the life for a fan of a underated actor. I hesitate to bring this up because it may be a bit before I can follow through on it, but this group has access to most of the impossible to find items in Rufus repertoire. In the past we've had some give away contestS in which you can become the proud owner of things like The Last Romantics or Dirtysomething--both pretty difficult to find items. I'm thinking since we have so many new members that it might be time to run one of our famous contests. Any takers? I need to get back to where I'm currently living (I'm in NY this week) and see what I have available before I can offer up any firm numbers.

Well, I'm definitely interested in getting some Rufus material.... Since I'm so new though, I'm not so sure how well I would be able to answer questions in a contest. ~crosses fingers~Thanks for thinking of we newbies Maxx!

Thank you, maxx! You can sign me up, too!
rueful, In a Savage Land is taking an awfully long time!
I should be receiving my non-butchered Illuminata, The Very Thought of You and Twenty-One shortly.

Ok, this rant echos one by DGD a page or so back. Most people have heard of the 33-year-old woman who already has six children under the age of 8 and gave birth to octuplets. This woman lives with her parents, has no income of her own, is $50,000 in debt from student loans, and 3 of the 6 children that were born before the octuplets are special needs children that she receives $490 a month for from the government, along with food stamps. She was interviewed recently and said she wanted a lot of children to "create a bond" she never had with her own family yet she doesn't consider her actions selfish! She's brought 14 children into the world with no means of support; her excuse for that was she'd be able to support them once she gets her master's degree. Can you say "Putting the cart before the horse"? And who's going to look after those 14 kids while she's in school? And where's she going to get the money to go back to college? With $50,000 in existing student loan debt, she's not going to be able to get another loan. That means she'll probably end up trying to get a grant which makes me even angrier because the money she gets could be going to another young person with financial difficulties through no fault of their own! All these children were also conceived via artificial insemination so there's thousands of dollars she spent on that instead of finishing her schooling! This whole thing actually has Bill O'Reilly and Keith Obermann agreeing on something! I pretty sure the temperature in Hell dropped several degrees when that happened! Don't get me wrong; I love kids but at some point enough is enough!

I don't usually speculate on other people's motives, but I can't help thinking she just did it for the publicity and whatever attendant compensation might come her way. No other reasoning makes sense to me. I think those doctors should be prosecuted for reckless wielding of technology.

I wouldn't feel so bad about it it was just an accident...you know? But when you intentionally have THAT many babies and know the whole time that you can't afford it....I hope she's happy with herself.

Dr. Phil's show today was about this whole situation and how irresponisible of the mother and her doctors this was. He said most people are required to have a mental health eval for elective procedures and any doctor talking to a woman with no job, no home of her own, no real plan to become financially stable, and whose reasoning for wanting more children was because she's trying to fill an emotional void would've refused the procedure. Her mom says her daughter hasn't paid her any money towards housing or care for the children while she's lived there and the day-to-day care has fallen mostly on the grandparents who are understandably pushed to their limits as it is. Why didn't her parents step in at some point and say, "Before you even THINK of having another child, you're going to take some of that money from your legal settlement, pay off your student loans, go back to school and get your masters, find a job, get out on your own, and start supporting yourself and your children!"
The only people involved in this I feel truly sorry for are those children. There is no way, under the current circumstances, that they can be provided for adequately in any way, shape, or form. Even under the best circumstances--a supportive, involved partner, family and friends, good income, plenty of living space--14 kids would be overwhelming! I just have a bad feeling these kids will eventually end up being seperated and put into foster care or worse, something is going to happen to one or more them due to neglect or poor living conditions.

Ambra, I'm with you 100%, saw her interview this past week, how pathetic. The sad part is, is that she's getting exactly what she wants, free publicity. The thing that bothers me most is that she's getting it, the press are like whores and will do and say anything for ratings.
The doctors should be stripped of their licenses and be barred forever from practicing. How on earth could this have happened? And yes DGD we will all pay for her foray into parenthood. Aren't there some type of tests one has to take to make sure the prospective parent is capable of taking care of a child? Human services should take all 14 away from her, she is a very sick woman who needs to be under a shrink's care. Incredible.

Maybe this will seem unrelated to the baby stuff, but it really bugs me to look at her mouth. It looks like he's had some kind of scary Cher wannabe cosmetic procedure. I know a lot of people have such procedures, but you just combine it with her overwhelming "need" to have more children she can't care for, and it should have been a big old red flag for the doctor. It was about her need to fit some kind of weird self-image, plain and simple, and not any thought whatsoever about any eventual babies.
My parents had a bunch of kids by today's standards, but my mom always said, "nobody ever gave your dad a raise just because another baby was born." They made do or did without and they didn't ask the state for help. If she can't care for them, she shouldn't keep them.
