Oh Ge2!!! Has anyone ever taken your hand like that Yes - but that's ROMANCE, not hand-sex! Wouldn't you? I know I would!

Oh, GE2!!! Romance is holding hands and looking lovingly at each other THAT is hand sex - the erotic intertwining of the fingers, eyes averted - when you know EXACTLY what they would be doing if they weren't fully clothed and in a church (note also the position of the hat!!!). IMHO, Rufus is the absolute master of hand sex AND eye sex (and voice sex in Nick Silver). Which is fortunate seeing as he seems to get very little actual sex in some of these movies!!!

Oh Giles. He is so lovely, so gentle, a gentle giant. This film was better than the book by far, the book I felt was very boring. Rufus brought the story alive. Spoiler alert!!! I love it when he tells Mattie about having a party for Grace and she ask about dancing. "Yeah an dancin" he says with a gorgeous soft voice and a small smile. I melt at this every time. And when you remember that Mattie was in love with him as well, you can imagine how she felt. wonderful acting and yes I did cry. Heartbreaking

Oh Giles................ (we say that a lot around here - i might go back and count all the times it's been written!!!!!) I think it's because there's nothing else to say sometimes, it's all so ...........well, sad!!!
The part in the book i did like was that Gracie eventually went back to the doctor and Marty was finally left alone with Giles (i also like the book because Rufus reads it to me on my ipod!!!!)
It's early spring here and my apple trees are in full blossom. Every time i look at them, i want to watch the Woodlanders again, but then i tear up just thinking about it, so i don't.
And now i'm crying thinking about, thinking about it (i think i've got PMS)
Oh Giles...............

So i finally got to see woodlanders after ordering it back in July from the us, and two copies being lost in the post. Really enjoyed it, Giles was such a sweet, kind and gentle man...too good for her in my eyes. Thought he would have married Marty. I didn't cry .

I just finished listening to this on casette with Rufus reading. One sgtrong word of caution to anyone who has a copy, very bad idea to listen whilst driving as accidents may occur. His voice is intoxicating. I found myself lost in thought while listening, he transports you to another realm of conciousness. Giles is one of my favorite roles of his, those eyes speaks volumes that he need not even speak. Such a heartbreaking role that I don't think I've seen this in its entirety, I can't bear to seem his so sad and forlorn.

I have" the woodlanders "on my I-pod and and enjoyed it very much. Rufus's voice is so expressive and fits the story so well . The lovely soft Dorset lilt. I enjoyed it almost as much as the DVD. this is so visually beautiful and so evocative of the period . and so sad.Rufus is heartbreakingly gentle, sweet , the hurt showing through every look. My problem is that I want to shake Giles and say " Do something " but then I have to remind myself that Giles is a 19th century man who would act differently to us in 21st century . Have you listened to any of Rufus's readings of the Bond books? It is amazing how different he sounds .

Nothing Rufus ever did has moved me emotionally as much as his performance in Woodlanders. (And no, I don't count my laughter and immense lust over his fishnet -wearing Petruchio in TOTS!!) His embodiment of the Giles character was so perfect and real...played in such a beautiful and subtle way. That Rufus played Giles just right and not in an overly melodramatic way was very important I think. Such that the tragedy and pathetic wastefullness of their needlessly thwarted love (the result of Grace's conceit, mis-guided choices and thoughtlessness) spoke for itself in the drama in such a natural fashion as to really pierce the viewers heart.

HI All and Happy Holidays,
I love this movie but can't bear to watch it again yet. The sobbing at the ending is too much.

I've tried to watch this again, and just can't. From his first scene, you just know it's not going to end well. He just looks so forlorn and sad, (and cold). I need a full box of Kleenex while watching but always turn it off before it ends, I can't bring myself to see him. He is wonderful but it's just so damned sad.

I agree Bee, very good movie but very sad at the end...when I watch this over again I usually stop before the end eventhough I have watched the end before. Easy to go thru a box of tissue. Rufus...of course...is wonderful as Giles. I work in a hospital and see alot of real-life sad things so I am a happy ending movie kind of gal.

working in an hospital, you should DEMAND happy ending to your movies! giles (my giles, btw) may appear to be a little bit too good, but i have known people like this, in fact this character reminds me of my dad a lot, which made the waterfalls even more flooding when i watched "the woodlanders". yeah... one of my fave rufus characters, but i have been able to watch it only once. unforgettable.
