I had the pleasure of meeting LeeLee (and son), Acousticgirl, TerriMac, and Michele and her husband before the show yesterday. We waited for Rufus in the hallway while Michele's husband was taking picure's of us under the 'NO TALKING' sign (all the while giggling). When Rufus got there--He was his usual charming and sweet self. We asked if we could take his picture and he said (smiling) he didn't have much choice because we had him cornered. He signed shirts and pictures and programs while Michele's husband and LeeLee's son were taking pictures---Can't wait to see them!! Of course the show was wonderful --I'let the others fill in their stories...I was just observing him with his fans because I have already had a signed poster and playbill

This time, because there' strength in numbers, I actually asked Rufus for his autograph. I asked him to sign the Rock N Roll t-shirt I bought the last time I went to the play. He obliged me even though it wasn't so easy writing on cloth. . . He's a sweetie. It was so great to meet so many Rufus site fans in person, and apparently my New York City accent was not anticipated (lol) - I told them that they should hear my dad. So, from now on, everyone who reads my posts should read them with a NYC accent in mind

That's a pretty broad range TM. Can you be more specific for those of us who consider ourselves displaced NYers? So we can hear you just right? ;D

Hiya everybody! I got back from NYC last night and thought I should share the Rufus experience. My son and I arrived in Manhattan on friday and stayed at the Milford Plaza hotel. Of course we went directly to see where Jacobs theatre was and where the alley for the stage door was first thing. The Stage door area is right next to the side entrance to my hotel, I mean, right next to it! Anyway, we then went to a comedy show and the taxi dropped us off on 45th so we walked past the theatre and I noted the time, 11pm. Hmm, should we go and try to get a pic of Rufus tonight? Yeah. I wasn't sure where to wait exactly but thought I should give it a go and hope that I was in the right place. We waited inside the doors behind the theatres. After a bit, a lady shows up with her husband and it dawned on me that someone from the group was going to be at the show. It took me a minute to remember the name but I did and then I asked,"are you Michelle from the fan group?" Yes it was she!!! What a way to meet! We talked a bit while waiting for Rufus and had a great time. Finally Rufus came out and I'll let Michelle tell you about her meeting. I asked him if my son could get a pic of us together. He was so nice, cordial, polite and soooo gorgeous! I said thank you and patted his back. WTF? why did I pat his back? I can't remember what he was wearing or much of anything. I'm not sure if it was at this time or later when my son introduced himself and they shook hands. Calvin said, "Im Calvin, nice to meet you." It might have been the next day...Michelle would probably remember. Saturday I ran into Michelle and her husband on time square and discussed meeting up at the theatre at 1pm cuz a few girls from the boards were going to be there and she hadn't been able to get Alice's autograph and of course, why not see Rufus again. We met Kriss and her mom, Mary, and Terri and her family at the theatre and proceeded to wait in the ally looking area. we chatted and took pics and then rufus showed up and was very pleasent and said hello to everybody. I had 2 pics for him to sign and he looked at them and told me that one was when he was doing a scottish play or something and that he had a "zit" on his forehead or something like that. I think i said "well, you still look good" God I hope I didn't really say that. I might have just thought it. I was helping him hold the pic and our hands were touchinhg.lol sqeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllllllllllllll. I know I said " these are my favorite pictures of you and I haven't decided which one to frame" Oh God, he's gonna think I'm some sort of nutter. After that, I can't remember anything he said. It might have been at this point that my son introduced himself. I can't remember which day. oh, Calvin took some pics of Rufus signing the pics. Saturday night we went to the play and it was awesome! It got a standing ovation! Calvin loved it and wanted to see it again...If only I had the money. (I had to buy more heating oil before I left for NY) After the show, Calvin and I waited in the alley area to have everybody sign the playbill. It was hard to recognize some but I got most, I think. Rufus and Alice came out together and when I saw him I said "this is the last time, I promise" I have no idea what his response was except that he was very nice! I asked if he would sign my playbill and I asked if Alice would sign as well. I said thank you and have a nice night. Sunday, after the show, we were walking back to our hotel and noticed a black car with Rufus Sewell written on a sign on the car and thought we'd just stand by the hotel and watch. Calvin wanted to go over but no way. well, Alice came walking out and I asked if I could take a pic of her and my son together and she said sure. she was soooo nice and simply beautiful! I was ready to go in but Calvin twisted my arm to wait a little longer. 5 or 10 minutes later, Rufus came out and got into the car and as he drove by, I noticed he was fixing his hair a bit and he gave a little wave and a thumbs up at us. Oh happy day! Well, that was my Rufus weekend. I can't wait to get my pics back on thursday!! Laters Leelee:) btw, I copied this from the email I sent thru the fanlist. I simply couldn't type it out again with these nails.

Leelee, I loved your story! And I know the guy!! ;D But I do love reading the descriptions of everyone's encounters. One of my favorite things to do is watch Roof's interaction with his fans (when I can). He's the best.
Can't wait to see the photos.

It's more like a novel, Rai. lol I'll be sure to send those photos thru when I get them. Terri sent a pic of us gals together that Michelle's husband had taken and now I'm nearly dreading looking at my pics when I get them back. I look like a cabbage patch kid:( When did that happen? lol Well, hopefully my boy got one of Rufus by himself. The Cabbage patch kid next to him might be a bit distracting.

I lived on 47th between 9th and 10th for a while when I first came to NY. Small world. The fact that you call it Hell's Kitchen instead of Clinton tells me a great deal. Do you still live in the City?

Leelee, I loved your story (and you're being way too hard on yourself because you looked great on Saturday). I saw Calvin shake hands with Rufus when I was there on Saturday . . . and I think that was so cool that Rufus gave you the thumbs up from the car. I think it's official that you and Calvin are regulars after seeing him three times! Can't wait to see the pictures!

I lived on 47th between 9th and 10th for a while when I first came to NY. Small world. The fact that you call it Hell's Kitchen instead of Clinton tells me a great deal. Do you still live in the City? Oh, that's right, our family still calls it Hell's Kitchen because that's what it was called when we lived there. My dad, who's now 87, was born and raised there, and then he and my mom got married in Holy Cross Church (still there 42nd & 8th, you might know it) - my older brothers and I lived there until I was a teenager. I went to grade school and high school at Holy Cross (I was the last graduating class in '72 -- okay now you all know how old I am). My hubby and I still lived within the NYC limits (in Queens though) until 9 years ago, when we moved to a house on Long Island with our now-teenagers, but still live just a few blocks from the city border (can't take the city out of me or my husband, I think it's imbedded in us) His family is still within NYC limits as well. I was telling the group on Saturday that my dad was a NYC cab driver all his life and he has a lot of stories because years ago there weren't black cars/limos, and all the famous people took cabs. That's such a coincidence that when you lived in Manhattan you lived on the same street, just up the block. My address when I lived there was 501 W. 47th. The building still looks the same as I remember it. I visited it about a year ago.

De-lurking to say thanks for the photos (I too love the one of Sinead - what a marvellous lady she is!) and the stories!
It's so lovely to hear about your Roof encounters and that you had such a great time! I'm looking forward to more photos.
I can't believe the play will be over soon... though we do have Eleventh Hour to look forward to.
Cheers,
Renata
