Most of jury's decisions concerning who gets awards are more or less politcal. It's not always about high quality or crowd pullers. If there was an eminently old person or a person with an extraordinary family or race background nominated for best actor, it could have been an insuperable hurdle for Rufus.

Sir Trevor Nunn: Accepting Best Actor on behalf of Rufus Sewell: “Rufus has got an extraordinary dexterity, quickness, nimbleness to the point where you know if you say ‘in one moment you have to be absolutely believably a Czechoslovakian, and the next you must have no trace of an accent’ you will never have a problem. He relishes that sort of dexterity, but he is extraordinarily truthful, very hard on himself. He was wonderful throughout the process, I mean I love him very much so it was a delight when he said yes, and we had just terrific fun throughout.” verrrrry nice

Don't you just love Sir Trev for that?! Added: Trevor Nunn is officially the most casual man with an award. He’s just strolling round with it swinging at his side. I wonder if Rufus Sewell would mind his casual nature. www.thealternate.co.uk/?p=51#comments

Almost 10.30 pm in England, even 11.30 pm here in Germany, and there's no new clip... Would love to see Sir Trevor take that little speech... Even more, would love to see just some impressions of R'n'R.

A8Lady, you were saying... >> If there was an eminently old person or a person with an extraordinary family or race background nominated for best actor, it could have been an insuperable hurdle for Rufus.
•• what i was thinking when i read that when it comes to rufus, i don't think there are "insuperable hurdles". he is in a class of his own. there simply are no competitors. when that kind of talent hits its stride, even political process gets swung in the direction of culture. i'm sure i read that somewhere...
just my little bubble and squeak.

Just got in and rushed onto my computer--how fantastic for Rufus -- I'm so happy for him - as all of you!! Too bad he couldn't be there in person; however, at least he's filming in Canada and it's by his own accord--I was getting very mad just thinking that Jet Blue and our New York City weather could have prevented his return to London for such a big day! His comments as well as Sir Trevor Nunn's were so heartfelt. Yeah Roof!!! BTW, love reading everyone's comments on this board.
