Someone had to say it, we all thought it! ;D Well Maxx might claim to be above it, but I don't buy that for a minute!! I'm not above it, he's just not my type. Lovely, charming, sweet, endearing and oh so brilliant... but just not my cuppa. But I understand why he's all of yours, so that should be okay, right? This reeks of a 'the lady doth protest too much, methinks' moment.

*Sigh*... since I've been watching T&I a lot (more) lately and this keeps bugging me every time, I'll just go ahead and say it...
Recast the film with Henry Cavill as Tristan and James Franco as Melot.

Personally I think James would be better as the third tree on the left in the first scene.

Having just heard Roof read the other Fielding, how about him doing Tom Jones on the screen? It would give him freedom to eat up the scenery, mug it up , , smirk, laugh that wild laugh that Frank had in Martha , Frank, etc. It would be such fun even if he did have to do it in costume.

Oo first I must agree, Rufus would be great as the lead in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, I love that movie! Another sexy character, big time! Also I agree with Mr. Darcy, sigh, he would make a great one. You know what other character I think he could totally play because he has all the wonderful characteristics, inside and out, and that's Rhett Butler! I totally think he could do it! And as for his Scarlett? Hmm... .. that's tough.. (YEAH RIGHT! lol) that would have to be ME!! lol! Hey a girl's gotta dream eh? ;D

Time to open up this thread again, methinks, because I saw 'Withnail and I' for the hundred and tenth time a couple of nights back. I haven't seen it for a while and I was all the time thinking how wonderful Rufus would be as Withnail........"we've gone on holiday by mistake". I could see him at every turn, and he does make a marvellously obnoxious drunk (think TOTS). There was talk of resurrecting it for the theatre a while back, but Bruce Robinson soon stamped on it. I suppose it's always risky to interfere with a cult classic, but it'd be nice to see Rufus in something so darkly humourous on stage.

I've never been able to get into "Withnail and I", although I do like Richard E Grant.
One thing I have seen recently was "The Calendar Girls", and Rufus would have made a great impact as the photographer - I can just see his face when he realises who, and how, he has to photograph the women!

Yep, Ruthy, I can see Rufus as Withnail as well...still have a vivid memory of that film though its over 20 years since I saw it. What do you think of him in the Peter O'Toole role in THe Ruling Class?

He doesn't want to do historical period pieces anymore so how about a savvy private eye like Sam Spade.

How about an updated version of Les Liasons Dangereuses, I know h'wood has recently made this again with Sarah Michelle Geller (not a very good treatment I'm afraid). I think he be perfect as Valmont. Now what woman would not fall for him?
