Don't you think he'd have fun as Mr Bean? Now there's casting against type!

You may be on to something there. No crazy costume changes or powdered wigs.

Continuing the idea of casting against type...I nominate Inspector Clouseau (Pink Panther) Rufus loves to try different accents, and physical comedy would flex those acting muscles.

Rufus to play the John Wayne role in The Quiet Man.

I'd like to see him in the Jimmy Stewart part in It's a Wonderful Life.

Hmm...recasting a Jimmy Stewart movie with Ruf gave me an idea.
I'd like to see him play JS's part in Rear Window BUT have Ruf play a Brit instead of an American.

Pen, spot on. Most definitely he'd have to do it with his natural accent, who do you think could play the Grace Kelly part?
There was a movie done in the 40's I think called "Laura" with Dana Andrews and Gene Tierney. I can see him doing the Dana Andrews part, he was a police detective. It was a good movie in b&w. Good story he could pull this one off for sure.

hey peach,
I think Jennifer Connelly could play Grace Kelly's role in Rear Window. She was the only one who came to mind, plus I'd like to see them work together again.
Thanks for reminding me about Laura. It's been a looooong time since I've seen it.
Speaking of film noir, I should just go ahead and suggest (even tho I'm a raging Mitchum fan) that Ruf play RM's part in Out of the Past--but again, as a Brit.

hey pendarim,
now you've got me thinking of RM, I am a fan of his as well. He did a movie a long time ago called Night of the Hunter (he was damned scary) also starred Lillian Gish and Shelly Winters, he played a bastard of a guy. Ruf has said he'd like to do something completely different than all other roles that he's played . He could do this one with no problem. Good one to rent by the way. Since you're a fan of his you've probably seen it, if not it's a great one to rent.
Jennifer Connelly could pull off the Grace Kelly part I think in Rear Window, or maybe Reese Witherspoon for a stretch or Emily Watson?

I'd love to see Ru as the replacment for Grissom on CSI...instead of Lawrence freakin Fischburne...and Laura Linney as Catherine, Micheal Ealy as Warrick (he survives the gunshot in my little world, Alan Rickman as the new under-sheriff, Oded Fehr as a detective....everyone else can stay the same...especially Jorja...

I know you can't improve upon near perfection, but one of my favorite films is Philadelphia Story. They tried to remake the film as High Society which in my opinion failed miserably, Ruf could do the CK Dexter Haven part, no problem. Although filling Cary Grant's shoes is takign a chance.

people, i almost broke a rib rotfl'ing while reading this thread. there should be a cautionary notice to new users! still cant get over the suggestions of @cat on a hot tin roof@, and of rufus as frank'n'furter...
anyway, am i the only one here thinking rufus would have made an incredible lestat, in interview with the vampire? opposite brad pitt as louis... it's getting hot here. come to think of it, he would have made a great louis as well. with a younger david bowie as lestat?... very very hot in here, seriously.
in the if ever rufus would play another villain department... someone suggested him for an alan arkin role, and i believe arkin is the older american equivalent to rufus, underappreciated and a total genius. so i would certainly picture rufus in wait until dark - with audrey hepburn... yum. arkin was such a bad, bad, stalker in this flick.
rufus would be great in the part of sherlock holme. put hugh laurie as dr. watson, of course... no, really, does anyone has a fan? the heating system must be stuck at 115 degrees, for sure...
oh! i got it! rufus in the role of cary grant in north by northwest! keep the rest of the cast. whatever.
of course, heathcliff, but it is so obvious as to be almost obnoxious to mention it. but who would be kathy? i cannot imagine. i will have to think about it.

GE2 is that true? My God what were the producers thinking, Ruf would have been perfect. I am a huge fan of the Lestate books since Jr High School, every time I see Interview all I can think of is Tom Cruise's teeth. I think with all the money they spent on that crappy movie the least they could do was make sure the prosthesis fit properly. What a hoot. I admired Paul Newman for his portrayal as rank Galvin in The Verdict, so against type for him, I would like to see Ruf in a role like that, and definitely MORE COMEDY!!!!!!!
