a softer side of our dear green eyed wonder, this is my all time fave roles of his, shows all sides of his personality especially one I admire the most, his sense of humour. Nothing sexier in a man (speaking for myself mind you) than a sense of humour. Love this role cause it's so well rounded. I lost count at the number of time I've seen this but for the life of me, do they ever mention his name? I just saw it not too long go and Idon't ever remember hearing anyone call himby name. If anyone remembers when it's uttered I'd be happy to watch again and find that scene. Simply yummy.

i dont think we ever hear his name. during the wedding sequence even, when the priest is supposed to call his name there is some noise over his voice and we never hear it.
he is called the 16th earl of something i never can recall, but i beleive his title is the only way he is refered to, apart from "him", "you", "asshole", "pillock", or other endearing nicknames.
and about this "softer side" you refer to, presumably inspired that you are by this highly kissable face shown above, remember that, during that sequence, his reaction to his best friend's tragic confidences is "you're not eating that?"

peach what a wonderful pic !!! Would you mind if I downloaded it??? I agree with you Tots is my alltime fav. About the name... No he is never called by any name . although he does say he is the16th earl of Charlbury.( useless bit of info. Charlbury is a REAL small market towm in Oxfordshire which is the Parliamentary seat of David Cameron leader of her Majesty's opposition...Kate's party) When tots was first shown he was named in the cast list as Petruchio,, Shakespeare's name for him but I read at the time a BBC synopsis on-line in which he was called Peter I think same as you that there is a softer side and a very vulnerable one too. watch his face when he says his dad died ..again the coverup of feelings shrugging off his mother leaving him when he was 6 and again in the lift when he asks Kate if she is sorry she didn't sign a pre nup. watchful, waiting to be hurt So many facets to the character MASTERLY PERFORMANCE .

Be my guest, I found this pic on the sister site, and yes I agree that last scene in the lift is pure magic, the chemistry that these two have is simply wonderful and such a treat. There is something so wonderful in his portrayal; he can be snarky and downright cruel and then in the next he looks so forlorn. What is it about this man? ? Sureley he must have a flaw or two but damned if I can find one. Then there's this.................

In all fairness (I think I've only commented here on movies I didn't like thus far...sorry), I LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie! Perfectly cast, a wonderful story, and soooo many sides of Rrrufus...this is honestly my favorite movie of all time. Shirley Henderson deserves a LOT of credit here, too. I can't imagine anyone else playing Kate against Rrrufus's Petruchio. And it was nice seeing Twiggy again! I don't think any woman with a pulse could watch this movie and not be a Rrrufus fan for life. I'd marry Petruchio in a heartbeat...LOL

Would love to see him cast in more of these types of roles. Loved it as well. So much fun to watch.

I just got to see this one, the adaptation is very good. All the acting is excellent and they play off of each other very well. Rufus is excellent of course, this now one of my favorite performances.

Rufus has said in the past that he'd like to do more comedy, so I'm pretty sure he would snap up a well- written role in a comedy if offered. I just don't think there are that many good ones out there to choose from to begin with. Though his most recent roles are not comedies, it must be gratifying for Rufus that in Pillars and Zen he's a positive character, playing something other than a twat or villian in a big production. He's always had a great range, and us longtime fans have seen him play all sorts of roles. He is just is so damn good at everything. However, his notable turns as an exceptional baddie had him rather typecast for a while, a symptom of the commercial film industry. It's great to see the producing powers that be are acknowledging his versatility again with those most recent castings--yay. Much as I'm excited for Pillars--good period movies are my favorite--I'm really enjoying the Zen novels/character even more, and can't wait to see Rufus' turn as the intelligent, mysterious, self-deprecating Aurelio. I just hope they add more romance in the series than are in the actual novels, hee hee. I'd love to see more of the Romantic Rufus! After all, isn't that what's so great about TOTS, it's so funny but sweetly romantic as well.

This is what turned me from an admirer to an obsessive This is my first post - but at least I've found a place where I can say I'm not the only one who feels that way about The Taming of the Shrew and lovely, lovely Rufus!!! I had, of course, seen him in many movies before (like Zorro, The Illusionist, etc), but oh my goodness... there is just something about him in The Taming of the Shrew! I would marry him even if he were wearing a skirt and eye makeup and nail polish! And he's just so funny. So refreshing to see him in a non-baddie role. It's just too bad that now I can't stop watching him... and am trying to stop myself from going through my entire DVD collection to get out every film I have that he's been in... oh dear!

Hi, parakeet! ;D Welcome! Petruchio is a magnet of the Rooftop. Rufus gets a lot of fangirls by him. I saw TOTS ten thousand times, and not only some bits but from the first bell-ringing to the last cute pic. ;D My fatal moment was: "Where is my mobile phone? In the cooker. With the footpump." ;D

Here's another one mesmerized by this truly wonderful adaptation! I came across it by chance on youtube and although I HATE watching movies on the laptop, I sat through the whole length of it and was completely fascinated. Never thought I could find a guy in drag and make-up actually sexy. But I found out that I do! The couch scene was also *RRRROARRRR* ... and the waking up in the holiday home bed ... and the photos at the end and just about everything else
