I also loved the part later on when he had walked into her office and when she came in and he was sat on the desk of her secretary she gave him a little melting lovesick look (only for a second) but it was marvellous to watch The scene before that is great too, when he recites the poem to her secretary And he looks sooo gorgeous in the suit with the red flower on his lapel. (But I agree, he's quite yummy in his fishnets too!)

I have been having a bit of a Rufest today due to the fact that the little girl I usually have is unwell. I have just got my tots dvd back from a friend (she didn't want to give it back) a few days ago and today I had the chance to re-watch it. I'd almost forgotten how good it was. I love the comic timing, the way Rufus and Shirley work together but most of all I loved those little moments. Like the little lovesick smiles from shirley and the fleeting little boy lost looks. I loved the part when he tells Shirley about the dare and he tells her that he is'nt a crook, he's just bad with money. Then his unsure face when he asked her if she would have signed a pre-nup. I also keep finding new bits that I like. When he was laughing at her passport photo. I think I'm back in love with Petrutio (not that I ever stopped being in love with him).

I so remember when Shakespeare retold was on the BBC. I was looking forward to the modern adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew.
I love chicklits and I know that you have to make your heroine likable from to start, so that the female readers can relate to her. For me there wasn’t much to relate for to Catharine, apart from being left standing in the tall department. She just doesn’t do diplomacy, does she?
I didn’t care much for poor Kate, until she arrived at the church at the same time the groom did. I actually had to zap to another channel because I was too shocked to find Petruchio in woman’s clothing and wearing make-up.
When I read romance novels with an Alpha hero, he often turns into an arrogant bully. In the 70s at Harlequin’s they just had to write the hero as arrogant man towering over the heroine with his money and higher intelligence. The scene in church could easily turn bitter, but it held it together, because in all the seriousness there was banter.
Over the weeks I have seen it a few times more on You Tube and I have read the interviews with the cast.
I think that Sally Wainwright did a superb job with the script and that the cast - all of them - did a fine job. You ladies never mention David Mitchell, but he just steals a bit limelight from Rufus I think.
I loved the mambo music! Thank you for the link.
I have a question about the Shakespeare quote in the café where they were eating breakfast. Rufus says something about gold. It must be a Shakespeare quote, but I haven’t found it.

Hi Tessa, Welcome to the site. No sorry David Mitchell is excellent but could never steal any scenes from Rufus. We only have eyes for Rufus! I agree with you - just look at him ;D

You would think that after his role in TOTS his career would set off. Maybe TPTB cannot look beyond the villains and the costume drama he has done, but I also think in his line of work there is a lot of favouritism going on.
You have to watch TOTS at least two times. One time just for Rufus and the other time for the story. And after that because you had so much fun watching it, and after that because of the little bits and bobs that makes you laugh out loud and after that you watch it again because your family thinks you have gone mad watching so much Shakespaere.

Tessa & Zenina, I agree entirely. I have watched it 4 times now and want to watch again today if I can find the time. I find that when I am driving my car I am going over the funny scenes or the romantic scenes and laughing or sighing to myself. My family think I have gone 'bananas'. This is not like me! They think it is so funny but I say let me indulge myself I am having fun . ;D ;D

Watched this again for, what, the 3rd or 4th time? XD I had a hankering for it after having read you guys' comments the other day. The football/soccer ball scene makes me laugh every single time! I replayed it like 8 times on youtube just because it made me laugh so much. haha!

I love that scene too, first the look on his face when he gets hit by the ball, and what I love even more is the ball slipping away when he angrily tries to chuck it back at the other guy

Kate, watch that last bit again - I think he deliberately lets the ball slip away, to annoy the man even more by not returning the ball to him. Which is even funnier! The look he gives is sheer "up yours, mate!"

@ Kissmekate. In that scene with the ball, he purposely lets the ball fall backwords and then taunts the guy before turning round to walk towards Kate with that priceless mischievious/cheeky grin on his face. As we know his acting kills are second to none. I cannot believe that he did not get offered better parts after this production. From reading some of the most recent articles and watching some interviews on the other threads I think that he was disappointed too that this didn't happen and that is why he says in one interview that he is not bothered about whether he becomes a household name but preferring just to get offered good parts. I believe he will become a household name with the part of Zen but hope that he can cope with the inevitable loss of freedom to move around without being recognised too much that this will bring.
